Football programs are sprouting throughout the state, but preparation and financial commitments are needed.In 1991, there were 56 varsity football teams in Maine; by 2001 there were 60. Last year, the addition of Yarmouth, Mt. View and Nokomis brought the state total to 70. Calais will join the fold this season, competing in Eastern Class C.
