Alfond Money

Anyone have any predictions about tomorrow?  New basketball arena?  Area that it might be located?  Alfond improvements?  Football improvements?

Football obvisouly needs new turf and that should be done for fall 2021. Will they put bathrooms on visitor side, remove the track, put endzone seating and an update to video replay like UNH would be awesome.

The biggie for hoop and hockey would be a shared arena like UVM is building. 24 hours to the big reveal. The architect certainly has alot experince in college arena`s, should be fun to watch at 9am tomorrow.

Nice video tribute to Harry Alfond and winning at UMaine and the resources to accomplish this feat.

Vermont is not building a shared facility. They are renovating the Gut and building a new venue for shootyhoops, if they ever complete that project. That university is a mess.

Having grown up in Vermont and still have close ties to Burlington, the project was temporarily on hold for a few reasons. Sub contractors doing much of the work were coming from all over. Some of the money will come from the University and with Covid the decision was made to put the brakes on. Now just recently they started moving forward on the student center which is part of the project. They are in a situation where both hockey and hoop facilities currently in use are more than adequate. The upgrades at Gutterson and the new Stand alone hoop facility will be very nice.
The 2 facilities will have shared club/VIP seating between them.

I would love to have a hoop arena attached to the Alfond like what UVM is doing with VIP suites used for both venues but we all know how tight space is adjacent to the Alfond ice rink and the Alfond football stadium and cannot fathom how this could work.

Here is what UVM will look like when they are done.

Bottom line regardless of what we want, we finally get to see what the plan is. This has been a long 4.33 monthsLaughing
