$90 MILLION OVER 10 YEARS.

"The Harold Alfond Foundation`s $90 million gift to UMaine Athletics will be distributed over the next 10 years, serving as a long-term investment in UMaine`s student-athletes, staff, and community. It is the lead gift in a planned $110 million investment in athletic facilities on the Orono campus, all expected to be funded through private philanthropy."

I certainly hope so.  Amazing gift...and couldn`t come at a better time.  This actually puts UM Athletics on more solid footing than many of their counterparts (UMass, UNH, SUNYs, Delaware) right now.

It essentially covers Ralph`s previously stated priorities:

  • Bring basketball home to campus.
  • Replace Alfond.
  • Fix the issues at football (turf needs to happen yesterday so it`ll be interesting to how they phase it).
  • New facility for track and soccer.

Yup.  God I hope that they move the track....ring it around the new soccer field!
