Lewiston-native coaches square off in girls' South regional final...At that moment, Rousseau had a realization: “I’m the worst dad in the world,” he said. “How on earth can I advocate for my daughter, who loves to play, and not coach the girls?”Rousseau took the job and, on Wednesday night at the William B. Troubh Ice Arena, he will coach the Stags (18-1) in the South regional final.Their opponent, Portland/Deering (14-5), also has a new coach in Tom Clifford, who coached the South Portland boys for an 11-year stretch until the early 2000s before taking over the Bulldogs’ program this season. His daughter, Kim, is a freshman on the squad. Both Rousseau and Clifford inherited programs that have struggled in recent years, and both are committed to growing the sport of girls’ ice hockey in Maine.http://www.sunjournal.com/lewiston-nati ... nal-final/

State titles ready to be decided[i:1pwucjuv]Cheverus/Kennebunk will meet Greely/Gray-New Gloucester for the championship Saturday.[/i:1pwucjuv]...Instead, Cheverus/Kennebunk (19-1) from the South and Greely/Gray-New Gloucester (18-3) from the North will meet for the title at 3 p.m. at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. Neither team features a player who has been in a state championship game before.“We know Northern Maine teams have had some success, but we’re just taking our opportunity and making the best of it,” said sophomore Abby Lamontagne, who leads Cheverus with 71 points. “We know Greely is going to bring it, and we’re excited.”Greely is coming off a 4-3 double-overtime win over top-seeded Lewiston in the North final. The Rangers rolled past St. Dom’s 7-2 in the regional semifinals, knocking off the two-time defending state champ.https://www.pressherald.com/2018/02/16/ ... e-decided/Girls hockey state game participants are no strangers — kind of[i:1pwucjuv]Greely/Gray-New Gloucester and Cheverus/Kennebunk didn't play in regular season, but they aren't exactly strangers[/i:1pwucjuv]...he rubber game, so to speak, has “a lot more on the line,” Greely/Gray-NG coach Nate Guerin said.“We’re quite familiar with each other,” Stags coach Scott Rousseau said. There’s no secrets between the teams at this point. The Stags used a “tenacious defense,” according to Rousseau, to go 17-1 during the regular season, the only loss an overtime defeat to rival Portland/Deering — which they avenged in the regional final. The Rangers, the North region bridesmaids to eventual state champion St. Dominic Academy the past two years, had to come out of the No. 3 seed and get back at both the Saints in the regional semifinals and top-seeded Lewiston/Monmouth/Oak Hill in the North final.- https://www.centralmaine.com/2018/02/16 ... s-kind-of/

It was a long-time coming.”As freshmen, the trio ended their season with a 1-0 loss to Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland in the regional semifinals. The team then came back the next year determined, but their undefeated season was ended by talented upstart St. Dominic Academy in the North regional final, with a crushing, 5-4 defeat. The Rangers had defeated the Saints twice during the regular season.Last year, revenge was not to be. It was St. Dom’s that was undefeated entering the regional final, and the Saints won 4-0 before finishing an unbeaten year with a second straight title.“We know how it feels to get knocked out,” Sullivan said. “We never wanted to feel that again, really.”- http://www.sunjournal.com/girls-hockey- ... y-ng-trio/- https://www.pressherald.com/2018/02/17/ ... ate-title/ TWITTER VIDEO[i:17g18kkz]Courtney Sullivan saves her best for last, scoring a hat-trick as Greely/GNG tops Cheverus/Kenn 3-1 in the girls hockey championship[/i:17g18kkz]https://twitter.com/TLee_WMTW/status/965043189286625280

Greely finishes atop girls’ hockey worldThe final Heal Points standings suggested that the Greely girls’ hockey team was third-best in the North Region. Those standings were wrong. The Rangers have no peer.Anywhere.The Greely squad (which includes a player from Gray-New Gloucester) capped a dramatic playoff run with a pair of victories at the Colisee in Lewiston last week to win the program’s third state title. One that won’t soon be forgotten. The Rangers went 15-3 in the regular season, losing twice to top-ranked Lewiston and once to two-time defending state champion St. Dom’s, but in the regular season finale, Greely beat the host Saints, 4-1, and that suggested something special might be in store.http://www.theforecaster.net/greely-fin ... key-world/

Cheverus girls’ hockey team falls in state finalFor the better part of three months, the Cheverus/Kennebunk girls’ hockey team had no peer, but Saturday afternoon in the state final at the Colisee in Lewiston, it ran into a red-hot Greely/Gray-New Gloucester squad which stole away its title dreams.Cheverus/Kennebunk went 17-1 in the regular season, earned the top seed in the South Region and after a quarterfinal round bye, advanced with a 4-0 victory over No. 4 Scarborough in the semifinals before avenging its lone regular season loss with an 8-2 win over second-ranked Portland/Deering in last Wednesday’s regional final in Lewiston.Portland/Deering was enjoying its best season on record, going 13-5 in the regular season, also earning a bye, then holding off No. 3 Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland in its semifinal, 3-2.http://www.theforecaster.net/cheverus-g ... ate-final/
