[u:ldzuvk57]Dogs fall in Trenton[/u:ldzuvk57]Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Thunder (5-3) made it four straight wins, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (5-3) for the second straight night, 4-1, Friday at Arm & Hammer Park. Trenton has won four straight, Portland has dropped three in a row.Despite a quality start from Trey Ball (0-1), the young lefty took the loss in his first Double-A road start. Portland took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Danny Mars (3-for-3) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Aneury Tavarez.Trenton used the fourth inning for the second straight night as their big inning, scoring three times off Ball. Mike Ford delivered the game-winning RBI with a two-run triple. Dante Bichette Jr. followed with a sacrifice fly. Ball finished with 6 strikeouts over 6 IP on 3 runs (one earned) and 5 hits allowed.Yefry Ramirez (1-0) was terrific for the Thunder, tossing six innings on two hits and one run to secure his first Double-A win. Cale Coshow pitched a perfect ninth for his second straight save in the series.Ty Buttrey pitched the final two innings for Portland, yielding a run on a wild pitch in the eighth. The Sea Dogs had just four hits - three by Mars and a single from Tzu-Wei Lin.Portland and Trenton meet in the series finale on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 PM from Arm & Hammer Park. [u:307hedzw]Sea Dogs drop the opener in Binghamton, 8-3[/u:307hedzw]Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (5-5) took advantage of nine Sea Dogs walks, grabbing the opener, 8-3 Monday night at NYSEG Stadium. Portland is now 1-3 on their 7-game roadtrip and 2-2 against the Rumble Ponies this season. Portland's Nick Longhi led off the ninth with his first Double-A homer and Mike Olt, (2-for-4) collected his first multi-hit in the Red Sox system. Binghamton's Mickey Jannis (1-0) earned his first win of the season, tossing five innings on six hits, two runs and one strikeout. Kevin McAvoy (0-1) had a tough outing for the Sea Dogs, tying a career-high with seven walks, allowing 4 runs over 3.1 innings. The game was tied until the Rumble Ponies scored three times in the fourth off McAvoy. David Thompson provided the game-winning hit with a two-run single to left. Binghamton scored in four straight innings, receiving 2 RBI from catcher Colton Plaia and a solo-homer from Kevin Kaczmarski. Cole Sturgeon went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the fifth and drew a walk in the first. Aneury Tavarez reached base for the 10th straight game and stole his team-leading fourth base of the year. Portland's bullpen allowed eight hits and four runs, but recorded nine strikeouts. Portland is now 2-3 on their roadtrip and improved to 2-1 in extra-inning games.Teddy Stankiewicz, Austin Maddox and Jamie Callahan (W, 2-1) combined on the 5-hit shutout, the team's first of the season.In the 10th, Rafael Devers (2-for-3, BB) began the rally with a single off losing pitcher Corey Taylor (0-2). Devers was lifted for pinch-runner Aneury Tavarez, who advanced to third base on a single by Nick Longhi. Jordan Procyshen (2-for-4) knocked in the game-winning run with an infield single. Longhi scored on a wild pitch.Callahan earned his second win of the season, working the final two innings and stranding a runner at second base in the 10th. Maddox fanned three batters over two scoreless of relief. [u:hnagn77t]Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies postponed on Thursday[/u:hnagn77t]Binghamton, NY - For the second straight night, the Portland Sea Dogs and Binghamton Rumble Ponies were postponed at NYSEG Stadium due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, June 3, beginning at 5:35 PM. Doubleheaders consist of two 7-inning games.Tonight is the third postponement this season for the Sea Dogs - they were rained out on Opening Night against the Reading Fightin Phils. Portland finishes the roadtrip 2-3.The Sea Dogs open up a six-game homestand on Friday night against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) at Hadlock Field. LHP Jalen Beeks (1-1, 5.91) makes his second straight start against the Thunder. LHP Nestor Cortes (1-0, 0.00) takes the mound for Trenton. [u:39jl2qs8]Dogs rally for 4 in the ninth, win 6-5[/u:39jl2qs8]Portland, Maine - Mike Olt delivered a walk-off, two-run single with two outs, and the Sea Dogs (9-5) scored four times in the ninth inning to win the rubber match against the Trenton Thunder (9-7) 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland trailed 5-0 after five innings and 5-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth before the four-run rally. After an infield single by Tzu-Wei Lin to lead off the ninth, Joseph Monge hit a two-run homer over the Maine Monster off of Travis Hissong to cut the deficit to one run. The homer was Monge's first in Double-A. Aneury Tavarez doubled and the Thunder brought in Cale Coshow (BS, L, 0-1) to try and close out the game. But Heiker Meneses singled to put runners on the corners, and after Coshow struck out Cole Sturgeon, Olt delivered the game-winning hit. Trenton took an early lead in the second inning on a two-out, two-run double by Abiatal Avelino.They added to their lead in the fourth - again with two outs - on a two-run homer by Dante Bichette, Jr. off of Trey Ball. Mike Ford hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to make it a 5-0 Thunder lead. Ball (ND) allowed five earned runs on five hits in 4.1 innings, he walked four and struck out three. The Sea Dogs got on the board in the bottom of the sixth on a solo homer by Mike Olt off of Justus Sheffield, Olt's second long ball of the season. Three batters later, Tzu-Wei Lin homered off of Sheffield into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion to cut the deficit to 5-2. Justus Sheffield (ND) was strong in his outing for Trenton. Sheffield allowed two earned runs on six hits in 5.2 innings, walking three and striking out five. The Sea Dogs bullpen was critical in keeping the deficit manageable. Luis Ysla (1.1 IP), Austin Maddox (2 IP), and Jamie Callahan (1 IP) combined to hold Trenton to no runs and two hits over the remainder of the game. The Sea Dogs' homestand continues as the Hartford Yard Goats visit Hadlock Field for a three-game series. Monday night's game is scheduled for 6:00 PM. [u:kij1c3sa]Sea Dogs shutout by the Yard Goats 5-0[/u:kij1c3sa]Portland, Maine - Drew Weeks three-run homer provided all the run support the Hartford Yard Goats (7-10) needed as they shutout the Sea Dogs (9-6) 5-0 on Monday night at Hadlock Field. Jack Wynkoop (W, 2-2) worked eight scoreless innings in the victory and allowed eight hits while walking one and striking out two. Weeks homer cleared the Maine Monster off of Sea Dogs' starter Jacob Dahlstrand (L, 1-1) with two on and nobody out in the sixth inning to give Hartford a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning Hartford added another run on a safety squeeze that allowed Josh Fuentes to score on a bunt by Jan Vazquez. In addition to the home run, Weeks made six putouts in right field and threw Joseph Monge out at home plate to end the second inning. Dahlstrand allowed four earned runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings, walking two and striking out two. Josh Rutledge joined the Sea Dogs on an MLB Rehab Assignment and finished 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Hartford plated their fifth run on an RBI triple by Luis Jean off of Josh Smith in the eighth inning.Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:00 PM. Tuesday's Portland Sea Dogs game against the Hartford Yard Goats at Hadlock Field has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made-up as a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 16th at 5:00 PM. Tickets for Tuesday's postponed game may be exchanged for tickets of equal or lesser value to any remaining 2017 Sea Dogs home game, subject to availability. Any questions regarding rained out tickets can be directed towards the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or tickets@seadogs.com. The Sea Dogs will play a single-admission doubleheader on Tuesday, May 16th, which will consist of two seven-inning games. Tickets for May 16th are good for both games of the doubleheader.

[u:2ehqv11t]Sea Dogs can't beat Reading[/u:2ehqv11t]Reading, PA - The Reading Fightin Phils (10-7) scored eight unanswered runs early in the game, and held on to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (9-7), 10-7, Friday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in the opener of a three-game series.Portland got off to a good start, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring triple by Danny Mars (2 RBI) and an RBI ground out by Cole Sturgeon (2-for-4, 2 RBI). Reading fought back with two runs in their half of the first off Kevin McAvoy (L, 0-2). The Sea Dogs went right to work in the second, plating two runs off Drew Anderson (W, 1-0). Tzu-Wei Lin homered, extending his team-high hit streak to 10 games, and Aneury Tavarez knocked in the fourth run with single.Reading scored eight unanswered runs off McAvoy, Taylor Grover and Williams Jerez. Scott Kingery tied the game in the second with a two-run homer (#6) to left. The Fightins took the lead for good in the third on a pair of bases-loaded walks to Chace Numata and Malquin Canelo. Carlos Tocci (3-for-4) delivered an RBI triple and Mitch Walding knocked in the eighth run with a single.Portland made some noise late in the game, scoring the final three runs off the Reading bullpen.Ty Buttrey and Austin Maddox each worked a perfect inning in relief for the the Sea Dog.The two teams play the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday night beginning at 6:05 PM.
