[u:1vc4wrbw]Wright pitches Red Sox past Orioles[/u:1vc4wrbw]BOSTON — Steven Wright continued his marvelous first half, helping the Boston Red Sox back into a tie with the Baltimore Orioles atop the American League with a 6-4 victory Wednesday night. The knuckleballer, who made the Red Sox rotation out of spring training only because of an injury to Eduardo Rodriguez, won his fifth straight start and raised his record to 8-4 with 7 1/3 strong innings as Boston evened the early first-place showdown at a game apiece.Hanley Ramirez hit his first home run in a span of 105 at-bats since May 10, a three-run shot that left Fenway Park entirely in a five-run third inning. Ramirez also had a single and a walk for the Red Sox, who chased Orioles starter Kevin Gausman (0-4) in three innings.Wright, who came into the game leading the American League with a 2.09 ERA, had it down to 1.93 before Adam Jones crushed a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Wright finished with a 2.22 ERA.http://bangordailynews.com/2016/06/15/s ... t-orioles/

Orioles’ Wilson shuts down Red SoxBOSTON — Buck Showalter predicted a turnaround and good things for struggling rough right-hander Tyler Wilson before Thursday night’s rubber match of Baltimore’s three-game early battle for first place in the American League East.He was right.“I say that about every pitcher. I do,” the Orioles manager said after Wilson pitched eight shutout innings in a 5-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox that moved Balitmore back into sole possession of first place in the division. “That’s the way you gotta look at it. It’s the start of something, if you’ve had a couple bad outings, it’s an opportunity.http://bangordailynews.com/2016/06/16/s ... n-red-sox/

[u:1th35xuj]The Hot Corner: Red Sox Report Card[/u:1th35xuj]It’s the time of year for an exercise most teachers celebrate and some students dread, for all that it represents: the June report card.In Major League Baseball, such a progress report tells the tale neither of a happily elapsed year or a hopelessly lost one. Your Boston Red Sox are merely approaching the halfway point of a season that looks a lot more like the history bee of 2004, 2007 and 2013 than the failed chemistry experiments of 2012, 2014 and 2015.Never too early to take inventory of who’s doing their homework and who’s slacking off. Here’s an alphabetical look at one teacher’s grade book in this season’s section of Rebuilding the Red Sox 101.http://www.sunjournal.com/news/local-sp ... ar/1937023

[u:1xptan38]Ninth-inning rally falls short for Wright, Red Sox[/u:1xptan38]BOSTON -- Jose Abreu pummeled a 99-mph offering from closer Craig Kimbrel into the gap in right-center for a two-out, two-run double that led the White Sox to a 3-1 victory over the Red Sox in 10 innings on Monday night at Fenway Park."During the whole at-bat, I was trying to find his fastball, because I know that he's a very good fastball thrower," Abreu said through an interpreter. "I was trying not to swing at a bad pitch, especially his curveball, because I know that he throws the curveball down in the dirt. And I was able to battle. At the end, I found the fastball to put the barrel to the ball and get a base hit."http://m.redsox.mlb.com/news/article/18 ... -abreus-2b
