[size=120:cv504djc]Scot Laliberte Invitational: Preseason meet draws 400 high school runners from around the state[/size:cv504djc]Friday marks the unofficial start of the high school cross country season with the 17th annual Scot Laliberte Invitational at Cony High School.The preseason meet starts at 4 p.m. with the varsity race for both boys and girls. Immediately after its conclusion, the junior varsity runners will take the course.Former Cony coach and race director Tom Wells started the race in 200 in memory of Scot Laliberte, who died in a car crash on Mother’s Day in 2000. Laverdiere, who grew up in Augusta and had Harmon as a coach and mentor, won his second straight Laliberte Invitational on Friday at Cony High School.“It’s a great race. I dedicated it to my former coach, Taylor Harmon,” said Laverdiere, a junior who moved to Yarmouth when he was in the sixth grade. “I ran hard for him. It’s kind of like a sense of closure. I knew I had to race for him.”Laverdiere’s teammate, Abigail Harmon, also won the girls race for the second year in a row.
