[u:w2ki9nou]Jimmy Garappolo’s got rhythm in fine outing vs. Bears[/u:w2ki9nou]FOXBORO — Jimmy Garoppolo is an honest-to-goodness, no-doubt-about-it NFL starting quarterback when he is in a rhythm. The third-year Patriot has surely dealt with bouts of ugliness in his pair of preseason starts, including another flat first-quarter performance last night against the Bears at Gillette Stadium, but the rhythmic stretches have continued to outweigh the head-scratching episodes. Garoppolo led the offense to 20 consecutive points to help the Patriots beat the Bears, 23-22.Bill Belichick called an audible on the quarterback’s plans, too. Tom Brady cut his hand before the game, and Garoppolo was tabbed as the starter about a half hour before kickoff.http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/patr ... g_vs_bears

[u:24p82cse]Buckley: Roger Goodell can’t be stopped[/u:24p82cse]Roger Goodell is like the boy king Joffrey Baratheon in “Game of Thrones” who bullies everybody around him because, well, he can.And for those of you who would be otherwise disappointed if I didn’t provide an analogy from 50 or 60 years ago, here goes: Roger Goodell reminds me of those old 1950s horror-movie posters that promise lots of blood-curdling, spine-tingling gore. You know .?.?. “Attack of the Crab Monsters (A tidal wave of terror!) .?.?. “Earth vs. The Flying Saucers” (Warning! Take Cover!) .?.?. “The Giant Leaches” (Crawling horror, rising from the depths of hell, to kill and conquer!)http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/colu ... be_stopped

[i:39q4bqg6]Play-action passing game helped make life easier on Jimmy Garoppolo[/i:39q4bqg6]Closing the book on the New England Patriots’ 23-22 win over the Chicago Bears in preseason action on Thursday night by cleaning out the notebook from film review:1. One of my biggest takeaways was how establishing the run with a level of physicality -- which was an obvious focal point of the coaching staff, with the usage of lead-blocking fullback James Develin and sixth offensive lineman Cameron Fleming -- makes life easier on any quarterback and sets up the play-action game. http://www.espn.com/blog/new-england-pa ... -garoppolo
