By Ernie Clark...BANGOR, Maine — Christian McCue developed into one of Eastern Maine’s top outside shooters earlier in his basketball career at Hampden Academy. But when asked to expand his game as a senior for the Broncos, the 6-foot-2 guard not only evolved into an all-around threat but led his team to the Class A state final.“A big concern coming into this season was whether Christian could make the adjustment from off guard to point guard where the ball would be in his hands a lot,” said Hampden coach Russ Bartlett. “As the season progressed, he really figured out when to be more aggressive with his own game and when to get his teammates more involved, and that was a big reason for our success.” Coaches and other observers statewide recognized McCue’s development, not only naming him Maine’s 2012 Mr. Basketball but also making him the leading vote-getter on the 57th annual Bangor Daily News All-Maine schoolboy basketball team. for full story

Thomas, who played this winter for the postgraduate team at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, will study and play basketball beginning next fall at Barton College, a top-level NCAA Division II program in Wilson, N.C.  for full story

They played and played, and played some more in a state final for the ages.  The referee's hand went up, signaling yet another foul, and John Wassenbergh's hopes went down. Chris Keene, his South Portland High teammate and his friend had just fouled out of the gameOn the South Portland bench, head coach Tony DiBiase turned to assistant coach Billy Whitmore and asked: now who?  Bangor High's lead was at 12 points with a bit more than two minutes to play. Its fans were leaving their seats at the Cumberland County Civic Center to mass under the Bangor basket and storm the court at the end of the game. No one wanted to be left behind to celebrate Bangor's upset victory over South Portland in the game for the 1992 Class A state championship. for full story
