Danielle Fossa, for one day anyway, decided to throw through the pain.

So what if the Waterville Senior High School senior couldn't lift her right shoulder to her head just a week prior to the Class B state championship meet?

"It hurt, but I wanted to contribute to the team's effort," she said. "Especially, because they were looking at a close meet with York. We knew it would be close and I wanted to give them all the points I could."

Fossa gave the team 26 points that ultimately decided the Class B state championship.

With a shoulder injury so severe she couldn't lift a brush to her hair a week before the state meet, Fossa won the discus and shot put to help the Purple Panthers win their third consecutive state title. She also finished third in the javelin, an event she almost threw left-handed because her shoulder was in so much pain.
