Sam Thompson scored 19 points, and Trevor Tierney had 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Rangers (2-0) cruised past the Raiders (0-2) at Cumberland. Chris Higgins hauled in 11 rebounds and scored eight points, and Jacob Dimick dished out seven assists for Greely. Yusuke Fukata led Fryeburg with 11 points.

Alex Bowe scored 12 points and Andrew Dickey added 10 to a balanced offense as the Capers (2-0) downed the Patriots (1-1) at Gray. The Capers led 35-21 at halftime, then Conor Moloney and Will Pierce hit consecutive 3-pointers midway through the third quarter. Moloney had eight points and Pierce finished with seven. Evan Kinney led Gray-New Gloucester with 14 points, Taylor Valente added 11.

Falmouth 59 , Poland 52

Stefano Mancini scored a game-high 28 points, including four 3-pointers, as the Yachtsmen (2-0) edged the Knights (0-2) at Poland. Ryan Rogers hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with eight points for Falmouth. Casey Ryan led Poland with 19 points. Kevin Payette added 12.

The Golden Trojans of Thornton Academy (2-0) jumped out to a 27-9 first quarter lead and were never seriously challenged in its 82-58 victory over the Massabesic Mustangs (0-2). Ian Barwise scored a game-high 16 points off the bench to lead the Golden Trojans. Andrew Shaw had 13 points, Tom Littlefield finished with 12 and James Morse 10 for Thornton - each in limited action as the Trojans went to the bench early and often in the contest. Jordan Lamb led Massabesic with 14 points and Spencer Cass added 13.

Deering 53, Gorham 32

Ronald Abwoch scored a game-high 17 points as Deering (2-0) beat Gorham (0-2) at Portland. Ian Nono had 13 points and five steals, and Eddie Tirabassi added 13 rebounds, four steals, three blocked shots and five points for Deering.

Mick DiStasio scored a game-high 23 points to go with four steals as Cheverus (2-0) beat Bonny Eagle (1-1) at Standish. Indiana Faithfull added nine points, nine assists and four steals, and Peter Foley had a game-high seven rebounds for Cheverus, which led 33-16 at halftime.

BE 38, Cheverus 56

SP 53, Biddeford 50

Matt Lee scored 15 points and Keegan Hyland had 13 for the Red Riots (2-0) against the Tigers (0-2) at South Portland. South Portland opened a 27-20 halftime lead, but Biddeford made it 34-34 by the end of the third quarter. The Red Riots then hit 9 of 12 from the line in the fourth. Spencer Bowring added 12 points for South Portland. Abdirahman Mohamed paced Biddeford with 20 points.

Rockland @ Belfast 12/9/2008

Chris Nolan had a game high 18 in leading the Tigers to a 56-44 victory in Belfast. Teel Ilvonen added 14. Belfast was led by Jason Hughes with a team high 15 for the Lions. The first quarter was tight with Rockland only up by 1. The second and third were domianted by the Tigers, outscoring the Lions by 14 in the two quarters. Dylan Meklin was the dominant big man for Rockland as Belfast's 2 big men did a good job of containing Tyler Patterson( 2pts). Belfast came out ready to play in the 4th, outscoring Rockland by 3. Rockland did, however, start playing stall ball halfway into the 4th and Belfast had no interest in fouling. Stearns goes 2-0 on Season

The Stearns Lady Minutemen hosted the PCHS Lady Pirates at Wentworth Gym in Millinocket Wednesday Night & Came away with a 57-15 win. Stearns was led by Adriana Eurich, who had 13. Molly Legassey had 12, Samantha Lyons 11, Kirsten Marter 10. Katie Mills added 6, Rebecca Leavitt 3 & Mallory Osborne 2 for the 2-0 Lady Minutemen. PCHS was led by Shaz Bravi, who had 8. Lynsey Carr 3, Abbie Burdin & Emma Riitano had 2 points each for PCHS. Stearns next game is Friday, December 12th vs. Searsport at Wentworth Gym in Millinocket, waather permitting. With five starters returning, Freeport girls basketball looks for more wins this winter

Although the Falcons lost their season opener Friday, 53-25 at Gray-New Gloucester (and are scheduled to host Lake Region today), Freeport's two captains are looking for better things to come as the team returns all five starters and three key reserves.

Young (York) Wildcats play well in loss (vs. Leavitt)

"We really didn't know what to expect going into the game, but we figured it would be a close game," York head coach Mike Vessey said. "I think we outplayed them, but we didn't outscore them. We made some defensive errors and gave up some breakaways which cost us." York outshot Leavitt 8-2 in the first period, 12-4 in the second and 11-3 in the third for a 31-9 game advantage.

(York) Wildcats place second at 7th annual Sullivan Duals

The York High School wrestling team started its season the way it did the previous six — honoring one of their own. The Wildcats hosted Morse High School, Kennebunk High School and Lincoln Academy on Saturday at the seventh annual Ken Sullivan Duals. Sullivan was a former assistant coach with the school's wrestling team and was killed in an automobile accident in 2001.
