Economy hits Golf?

Postby prep2 on Wed Feb 03, 2010 3:33 pm

well the economy isn't the best its been..
and we all know that?
so is this effecting how you pay for a membership?
some private clubs' rates have gone down
and some public have gone down?
where are they hot spots for the best deals with quality still?
and where do you plan on playing next year?

Biddeford-Saco CC hasn't changed any prices but the waiting list for memberships is significantly smaller now. I would imagine that this is in large part because of the economy.

This is just a rumor I heard that might not be true but Bath Country Club could be shutting down. It will be interesting in the upcoming weeks if anything about this is revealed. Again this is just a rumor from an outside source.

Not only has the green fees gone down in most cases but also the price for a set of clubs. You can get a $400 set of irons for about $250-$300. Anybody know a good set of irons for a high school junior with the price range between $300-$550?

Every player needs different equipment depending on their skill level, how far they hit the ball, ball striking, and so on. I would talk to someone as Golf and Ski or Dick's Sporting Goods, they usually have some good advice. Ask for Digger if you go to Dick's. Also talk to your club pro, he can probably point you in the right direction as well.

Callaway X-18 irons would probably be in your price range. Before knowing anything about your game that's what I would suggest.

X18's are solid..
and i know Dick Harris is closing on Falmouth Country Club this wed. and is waiving the initation fee of $3,000 for this year only. I mean now its 3k for a family with everything included, plus is basically a membership to all his other courses, you only have to pay the cart fee

I've looked at the x18's before and wouldn't mind trying a set out. But what do you think about the Nike slingshots? Some people say they're junk while others say they're great.

I personally do not like the slingshots but that doesn't mean you will feel the same way.

The x-18's are a good club and considered a players club. Not quite as forgiving. Dick's pushes Nike's but very few people like them, that is one of the reasons they are so cheap. Digger is a Callaway guy from way back so he might be a little biased. A good idea is to look at the clubs that are one year old and not used they are a lot cheaper. They x-18 model is over 4 years old and also no longer in production.
