WIZ WORDS: ALL WIZ Team 2009-2010

Each year after the season is over The WIZ selects his ALL WIZ Team.The criterion used is based on play throughout the regular H.S. season and the MPA season ending tournament. Wrestling: Cony's Vallee earns high recognition after finishing 3rd at tournament

BY TERRY DEVEREAUX.. TJ Vallee set a new standard for Cony wrestlers when he achieved All-New England status at the New England Wrestling Tournament last weekend. The senior went 4-1 to place third in the 189-pound weight class. Vallee became the first Cony wrestler to earn a medal at the New England tournament. he tournament, held at the New Haven Athletic Center in Connecticut, brought together top wrestlers from the six New England states. The top six finishers out of 22 entrants in each weight class earn All-New England status

Girls basketball: Cony senior tops off career with all-star game appearance

By Gary Hawkins..If Mackenzie Dufour were a car she'd be a Mini Cooper -- a small body with a powerful motor. Whether she's playing point guard for the basketball team, sweeper for the soccer team or running sprints in track, the Cony High School senior is in perpetual motion. "She just went and went and went and she never stopped," Cony basketball coach Karen Sirois said. "Her endurance is incredible." At 5-foot-2 and 106 pounds, Dufour needs to be a step quicker than her opponents, but she's never shied away from contact either.

Baseball: Red Riots assistant heads to Falmouth

By Tom Chard..FALMOUTH - Kevin Winship, a former assistant coach at Portland and South Portland high schools, is the new Falmouth High baseball coach. Winship replaces Dana Dresser, whose contract wasn't renewed last year by the school's administration. Winship, 36, is looking forward to his first head-coaching position. "It's an opportunity to have my own program," said Winship, who teaches physical education at Memorial Middle School in South Portland. "I feel I am ready."
