BEST MAINE H.S. BASEBALL PLAYERS EVER

Postby bobbybball » Fri Mar 06, 2009 9:33 am

Last fall, Riotalum started a thread on the best Maine football player ever. It is still getting responses. With the baseball season about to begin, I thought it might be interesting to start a similar thread on baseball. I will begin with a short list to get it going. It does not even scratch the surface and is not meant to slight anyone. Billy Swift, Jim Beattie, Carl Willey, Dan McFadden,
Ed Phillips, Rick Swan, Fred Howard, Gary Smith, Ed Flaherty, Mike Ladd. Let's hear some others.

Billz, I believe John Sawyer played for Messalonskee and went on to star at U-Maine.
You can add Dick and Tim Scott from Ellsworth to the list also.

Though Mark Rogers pro career may be in a stand-still at the moment (not sure of the latest updates), if we are talking about Maine's best "high school" baseball players ever, he has to be near the top of the list. His dominance in Class A baseball was incredible to watch.

That's why I named him first on my list.
