Me women lucky Hartford doesn't take advantage of mismatches

Postby bcbc55 » Mon Feb 05, 2018 10:58 pm

The UMaine women's basketball team was very lucky today that the Hartford women did not take advantage of their size and the mismatches it created for Maine.

Maine point guard Door Saar at 5'4" guarded a player 4-6 inches taller then her for the entire game and Hartford never once posted Saar up. Just very poor coaching. Hartford did go inside to their BIGS and out scored Maine 24 to 19 in the paint and it should have been by much more.

Score by quarters:
Hartford 20-28-34-56
Maine....16-25-45-59

Maine took an early 16-4 lead midway thru the opening stanza only to have Hartford to go on a 19-0 unanswered run to take a 25-16 lead midway thru the 2nd quarter, Maine finally got on the score board and finished with 9 points to trail by 3 at the half.

Maine then proceeded to out score Hartford 20 to 6 in the third period. Then Hartford came back in the 4th quarter to out score Maine 22-14 and even took a 54-53 lead late in the game as Maine then rallied to score 6 points to Hartford's 2 to win 59-56.

Maine had 3 players in double figures. Millan and Brosseau each had 19 and Saar added 11.

For Hartford Lee was the only player in double figures for Hartford had 24 mostly coming from the paint as Maine could not continually shut her down down low. Hartford should have gone to her more on the block.

Maine shot 21 for 47 from the floor for 44.7% Hartford went 23-57 for 40.7%.

Maine went 10 for 25 from arc for 40% and Hartford was just 4 the 20 from ARTtic ice cold line for 20% for 3's. Millan was 2-8, Brosseau went 5 of 11 and Saar was 3-5.

Maine took 53.2% of their FGA's as 3's on 25 of 47 while Hartford took 35.2% on 20 of 57 as 3's of their total FGA's.

Maine shot 7-10 from the line for 70%. Hartford was a perfect 6-6 for 100%.

Rebounds Maine 28 Hartford 28
Turnovers Maine 28 Hartford 18
Assists Maine 11 Hartford 13

Points in Paint Maine 19 Hartford 24

Maine's 28 turnovers offset their 3 point shooting to make for a very close game.

Again Maine living by the three (they won).

Maine goes to 9-2 in conference play. Maine's next game is Saturday when they play host to New Hampshire to meet the Wildcats for a 7:00pm game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Bob, the New Hampshire game is home on Thursday, and the game is at 7:00, not 1:00.

Maine's 28 turnovers was the story.....cut those in half and Maine wins by double digits.

UNH lost to Vermont last night at home. They are a HUGE disappointment this season. That being said....I really don't want to see them in Maine's bracket come tourney time.

Is there any doubt that Vachon is the favorite for COTY in AE? Maine was picked 6th and most likely will finish #1 or #2!

Some scary ball handling moments for Saar in the last couple of minutes. Hopefully just freshman nerves. Brosseau also makes me nervous when she brings up the ball under pressure. Maine's big recruiting needs are another PG, an athletic wing (can we clone Sutton?) and a forward with offensive skills.

Coach R: My bad, thanks for the corrections, I will make the changes.

Well that proves one thing someone must read my entire posts from top to bottom or maybe they just read the top paragraph skip the other paragraphs and just read the final paragraph along with just the first one.

But, whatever thanks again for bailing out an old senior citizen poster.
