Whole new ball game: Overseeing the business of sports at UNH

DURHAM -- Jon Danos is in the business of athletics at the University of New Hampshire.

Danos is UNH’s executive director of athletics, having been named to the position this past September.

As such, he is responsible for the business activities of the university’s Athletics Department, overseeing, among other responsibilities, creation of revenue opportunities to support the school’s many sports programs, the marketing of the university through its sports, and enhancing the experience of fans at sporting events.

Among his efforts for the current 2017-18 academic year was negotiating and carrying out an agreement with ESPN to broadcast 65 games on the network’s ESPN3 online streaming channel. Those games included football, men’s and women’s hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and others.

It’s a much bigger endeavor this season compared to the 2016-2017 season when 25 games were broadcast.
