Pearson’s goal-scoring resurgence helping Black Bear hockey team

...He goes into this week’s two-game men’s hockey series against Merrimack College with a three-game points streak (3 goals, 1 assists) and with points in eight of his last nine games (5 & 6).

UMaine (14-9-4 overall, 8-6-3 Hockey East) and Merrimack (7-15-4, 4-11-2 HE) play at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.

Pearson (6 goals, 18 assists) and sophomore linemate Mitch Fossier (8 & 16) are UMaine’s leading scorers with 24 points each. The No. 3 scorer is their linemate, freshman right wing Eduards Tralmaks (9 & 12).

Pearson has 16 points (3 & 13) in 17 Hockey East games which ties him for seventh in the league. He is tied for the league lead in assists.

Maine beats Merrimack in overtime
The Black Bears are now 10-2-4 in their last 16 games as they gain more ground in the Hockey East standings.

ORONO — After losing three leads, the University of Maine men’s hockey team had to wait until overtime to celebrate Friday night.

Defenseman Patrick Holway’s slap shot 20 seconds into the extra period gave the Black Bears a 4-3 win over Merrimack at Alfond Arena.

Brendan Robbins scored a hat trick for Maine, but the Warriors kept coming back, tying it for the third time at 18:31 of the third period with their goalie pulled.

Robbins, a junior from Nashua, New Hampshire, scored at even strength, on a penalty shot and a short-handed goal.

Jeremy Swayman made 36 saves as the Black Bears held on for a key win.

2 points is 2 points, but they have to clean up the penalties. Good grief. A win tonite puts them in sole possession of 4th place in Hockey East and in striking distance of being #1. Unbelievable.

Can anyone find a story on bangordaily.com about last nights game? Surely they wouldn't just ignore the fact that the game was played right?

Reason might not be an article is I listened to parts of the game and Mahoney was doing the color and he said deadline for article was 9:45 and b/c game started late he might not make the deadline but did say it should be on line?
This team is getting their 2pts against lesser opponents but by the smallest margin. They make every team look as though they are just as good as they are :o
Not sure what this means against the top tier of HE.
