Men’s Indoor Track and Field Opens Season at New HampshireDURHAM, N.H. -- The Maine Black Bears men's track and field team competed against New Hampshire on Saturday in the season opener, falling to the Wildcats 102-74 at Paul Sweet Oval.
The Black Bears won the mile run, as Jacob Johns ran a time of 4:21.43 to add five points to Maine's score. Logan Moses (4:24.48) took third in the event for two points. Aaron Willingham immediately followed with a win in the 3000 meter run, recording a time of 8:49.18. Jacob Terry placed third for two points, registering a time of 8:51.75 in the 3000 meter run. Troy Davis recorded the best high jump (2.00 meters) on the day to give Maine five points towards its total.
Other top finishers include Andrew Smith (6.77), Seth, White (6.77), and Dylan Smith (6.85) who finished second through fourth in the 55 meter dash. Andrew Clement, White, and Isaac Yeboah also took second through fourth in the 200-meter dash. Clement placed second best in the 400-meter (54.11), while Michael O'Clair took third (54.52). In the 500 meter, Cooper Nelson was the runner-up with a time of 1:10.38.
In his first race as a Black Bear, Ethan Orach finished third, tallying a time of 1:59.09. In the lone hurdles event, Colton Santoro finished in second place with a time of 8.02 in the 55 meter hurdles. Maine's Devin Burgess (4.25 meters), placed second in the pole vault, while Maine swept second place through seventh in the long jump. Davis finished with the best jump among the group of Black Beas with a 6.72 meter leap. Elijah White also took second in the triple jump, finishing his best sequence of jumps of 13.40 meters.
Both the men's and women's teams will travel back to New Hampshire next weekend, as Maine will compete against Dartmouth and New Hampshire in Hanover. Friday's multis event will start at 3:00 p.m., while Saturday's competition commences at noon.
