Wildcats Fall to UConn, 4-2

...HOW IT HAPPENED
UConn opened the scoring at 9:42 of the first period. Max Kalter ripped a shot from the blue line, which was tipped by Zac Robbins to the back of the net which gave UConn a 1-0 lead.
Each team took 12 shots, while both teams went 0-2 for the power play.
At 11:02 of the second period, junior Ara Nazarian (Boxford, Mass.) sent a pass to Kelleher who slid the puck into the back corner of the net past Tanner Creel to tie the game 1-1.
Through a crowd of players and past Creel, Wyse sent a wrist shot from the top left faceoff circle with 25 seconds left in the second period to give the Wildcats the 2-1 lead going into the third period.
Jesse Schwartz sent a shot to the back of the net to tie the game 2-2 at 16:43 of the third period.
Spencer Naas then fired a slap-shot from the left faceoff circle to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead with 1:05 left in the third period.
Corey Ronan clinched the victory with a shorthanded empty net goal with 18 seconds left.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
UConn outshot UNH, 28-26.
The Wildcats went 0-4 on the power play, while UConn went 0-3.
UConn secured 40 face-offs, while UNH won 31.
Tirone and Creel each posted 24 saves.

Wildcats Defeated by UConn, 3-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
UConn opened the scoring at 11:42 of the first period as Spencer Nass send a backhand pass from the slot to Karashik at the blue line who wristed it past freshman goaltender Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) to give UConn a 1-0 lead.
With 17 seconds remaining in the first period, senior captain Dylan Chanter (Armstrong, British Columbia) tapped a pass off of his skate to Vela in the slot and he fired it over the blocker side of goaltender Tanner Creel to even the score at 1-1. Junior Ara Nazarian (Boxford, Mass.) also tallied an assist on the goal.
The Huskies outshot UNH 15-14 in the first period.
At 2:35 of the second period and with UConn on the man advantage, Benjamin Freeman blasted a one-timer wide of the goal, but the rebound bounced out to Wyatt Newpower who fired it into the back of the net to give UConn the 2-1 lead.
UConn outshot UNH 17-3 in the second period.
At 3:24 of the third period, Chanter ripped a shot on goal that was saved, and Kelleher found the rebound to equalize the score at 2-2.
At 10:42 of the third period, UConn regained the lead as Karashik slapped a shot from inside the blue line that found the back of the net to give UConn a 3-2 lead.
UNH pulled its goaltender in the final two minutes but were unable to score as UConn recorded the 3-2 victory.

Wildcats To Play At #9 Northeastern; Host UMass

...QUICK FACTS:
The Wildcats are 97-62-16 all-time versus Northeastern, but the Huskies are 3-1-1 versus UNH over the last five games.
Northeastern is second in the Hockey East standings with 24 points, while UNH and UMass are tied for eighth with 11 points.
The Wildcats are 3-3-0 versus nationally ranked teams this season.
UNH is 88-21-11 all-time versus UMass. The Wildcats are 3-0-2 versus the Minutemen over the last five games and 7-1-2 over the last 10. UNH defeated UMass earlier this season with a 3-0 victory on the road on Nov. 4.

TOP LINE ON A ROLL: The line of junior Ara Nazarian (Boxford, Mass.), junior Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) and freshman Charlie Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) have played four straight games together. The line has combined for 12 of the team's 25 points over the last four games. Kelleher has three goals and two assists for five points, while Nazarian has one goal and three assists for four points, and Vela has one goal and two assists for three points.

STRONG PENALTY KILL: The Wildcats are fourth nationally and first in Hockey East with a .876 penalty kill percentage. UNH is 99-for-113 on the penalty kill only allowing 14 goals.

THE MATCHUPS: UNH is sixth in Hockey East in scoring offense with 2.81 goals scored per game, while Northeastern is first (3.50) and UMass is eighth (2.65). The Wildcats are sixth in scoring defense with 2.77 goals allowed per game, while the Huskies are second (2.31) and the Minutemen are 11th (3.23). UNH is 10th with a .173 power play percentage, while Northeastern is first (.269) and UMass is 11th (.152). The Wildcats lead the league with a .876 penalty kill percentage, while the Huskies are seventh (.793) and UMass is fifth (.805).

UNH Ties #9 Northeastern; Tirone Posts 40 Saves

BOSTON, Mass.– Senior goaltender Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) made 40 saves and freshman Max Gildon (Plano, Texas.) scored for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team tied No. 9 Northeastern 1-1 on Friday night. The Wildcats held the Huskies, who entered the game with a Hockey East best 3.50 goals per game, to just one goal. The Northeastern power play, which also leads the league, was kept off the scoreboard as it went 0-5 on the night.

The Wildcats will return to the Whittemore Center on Saturday, Feb. 3 to take on UMass at 7:00 p.m. The game will be Mascot Night and Coach Umile Commemorative Pin #3 Giveaway. Tickets can be purchased at the Whittemore Center Box Office, online at UNHWildcats.com or by calling 603-862-4000.
