NE Hockey Journal
@NEHockeyJournal
Maine goaltender Jeremy Swayman named @hockey_east Rookie of the Month for January. Here's our feature story on the @NHLBruins prospect
https://t.co/RyzcKoc0KL

...Over the last three games, all wins, Swayman has stopped 134 of the 143 shots he’s faced. He stopped 95 shots during this past weekend’s sweep at Quinnipiac, including 50 in Friday’s comeback victory.

“It’s tough when you only have two to three shots a period and then all of a sudden you get bombarded. Having consistent rubber the whole game helps me. With my mental game, I just try to take it one shot at a time. Seeing a lot of rubber helps me stay in the game,” said Swayman.

After a rocky first collegiate outing, it’s been a steady climb for the Anchorage, Alaska, native who now holds a .927 save percentage for the Black Bears, a program that hasn't been above .500 at the semester break since the 2013-14 season.

Sixteen semifinalists selected for 2018 Walter Brown Award

he Gridiron Club of Greater Boston has announced that 16 NCAA Division I players are semifinalists for the 66th Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.

The nation’s oldest nationally-recognized college hockey honor, the Walter Brown Award was established in 1953 by the members of the 1933 Massachusetts Rangers, the first American team ever to win the World Championship Tournament. Brown coached the Rangers to the title in Prague, Czechoslovakia, that year. The team defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime in the championship game.

Ten teams are represented in the slate of candidates that includes six forwards, one defenseman, and one goalie from Hockey East, three forwards and one defenseman from ECAC Hockey, and one forward, one defenseman, and one goalie from Atlantic Hockey.

Does anyone know how bad Swayman’s injury was last night? He didn’t come out of the game but right after he made a save he tossed off his glove and was looking at his fingers. He had the trainers look at it during a time out and after every whistle he was stretching his fingers or something on the ice. If he’s not at 100% this team isn’t going anywhere
