Maine's goal going into America L'east Conference play would to not finish 9th so that they get into the tourney quarter-finals. Be nice if they could finish 4th to get a home quarter-final game to give them a chance to win a tournament game since they haven't for over 14 years.
Good group of players as people and too bad what some of them have had to go thru the past 3 plus years and some 2 plus years and some 1 plus year and some just so far this year.
The stats above indicate that some changes are necessary to be made and if some things do not change then they probably will finish 9th as the pre-season AE coaches poll predicted.
Proposed needed changes as none of these things have been apparently done in the first 13 D-1 contests otherwise Maine would not be 9th in 10 stats in 6 spots, 8th twice, 5th one and 4th once in the stats listed above in the 27th RPI ranked D-1 conference in the country and the 32lst ranked SOS conference out of 32 D-1 conferences in the country.
1. reduce dependency of the 3 point shot.
2. go inside-outside to get open threes on passes from inside the 3 point line from the block to outside for the 3 and anywhere else inside the 3 point land
3. use more dribble penetration for kick out open threes
4. make sure players square to hoop with feet, hands in shooting position where they want the pass to come on perimeter passes so that they are squared to the hoop when they catch the ball so that they will not be rushed to take the three and if they are rushed then fake 3 dribble penetrate and if no shot off penetration then create for teammate for a three off the dribble penetration
5. play just 8 players
6. Chart 3 point shots so you know how you got the 3 point shot, who took the shot and if they made or missed the shot, this should help to determine how to, when to and who should be taking the threes based on the success rte determined by how gotten and how successful.
Just my opinions to take under consideration from a longtime UMaine men's basketball fan since 1949 and after watching all but the last Columbia game so far this season either in person, on line or on TV. If I didn't care I woudn't take the time to post this material.
