Softball Reveals 2018 Schedule
Black Bears open the 2018 regular season on Feb. 23

Orono, Maine -- University of Maine head softball coach Mike Coutts is pleased to announced his team's 2018 regular season game schedule. The 49-game slate begins when the Black Bears open the season on Feb. 23 with a doubleheader in Wilmington, N.C. where they will take on Bucknell and UNC-Wilmington.

The Black Bears are coming off a season which saw them go 19-25 overall and 10-5 in America East action as they were able to advance to their second-straight America East Championship title game. Maine returns eight starters, including America East All-Conference selections Rachel Carlson, Alyssa Derrick and Meghan Royle, along with all three of its starting pitchers. Erin Bogdanovich, also an America East All-Conference selection, returns to the rotation along with Molly Flowers who led the America East with 45 strikeouts in conference play.

UMaine's opening series will take place as part of a five game series held on the campus of UNC-Wilmington. Maine will open play on Feb. 23 in doubleheader action with Bucknell and UNC-Wilmington before returning the following day for a pair against the same two squads. The opening weekend will conclude on Feb. 25 with a single game against Longwood, who won the Big South title in 2017 and advanced to play in the NCAA Regional round.

INSIDE THE DEN: Maddie Kimble #25

...I was coming into Maine, not only leaving my family and friends 13 ½ hours south, but also not knowing a single person who attended the university. I’m not going to lie, I was scared, anxious, stressed, and ultimately not sure what to expect. I was the typical lost freshman who did not know what she was getting herself into. My first semester as a freshman was not easy, but there is a famous quote that goes “if it was easy, everyone could do it”. After this semester, I could write a paper on The Odyssey or explain how to solve integrals, but if there are two things I have learned from my first semester, it would be the significance of experience and the value of my team.

Everyone is lost when first coming to college, at least I know I was. People can try to prepare you and outline what it will be like, but in reality, no one can know until they experience it themselves. I can tell you my experiences and how it shaped my routine at Maine, but you will learn that everyone will have different experiences that lead to your own understanding and perspective of college, and ultimately, life. It is who you make your experiences with that matters.
