They have a tough road to hoe as they say. It is not impossible.

It is just damn unfortunate though. Maine can do better I think.

I wonder why the Director of Basketball Operations just up

and quit. That may be a telltale sign that Walsh may be in some trouble now.

But it is anyones guess at this point.

ALABAMA stays hot, beats BYU in New York.

This is why UMAINE needs to let Bob Simon take over the reins for the UMAINE basketball program.
Because two years ago he was primarily responsible for bringing in the Number 5 recruiting class in the country.

Now we are seeing the results of that recruiting class at Alabama. Suffice to say letting Bob Simon go is going to
turn out to be ALABAMA'S loss and UMAINES gain if UMAINE will just give him a shot to show what he can do.
Simon can flat out recruit and his coaching abilities have never been in question.

The University of Alabama men’s basketball team, off to a high-powered offensive start this season, relied on its defense Friday to take a 71-59 win over Brigham Young in the Barclay’s Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Crimson Tide held BYU to just 37 percent shooting from the field, holding the Cougars more than 20 points below their season scoring average.

Freshman John Petty led Alabama with 16 points. Junior forward Donta Hall had 14 points and nine rebounds, including two dunks that helped quell a BYU rally that cut the Alabama lead to eight points, 65-57, with 3:45 to play.

“I thought we had a balanced effort,” Alabama coach Avery Johnson said. “Not a perfect effort. There are things we still need to work on, but we have good problems this year.”

Johnson singled out Hall and sophomore Daniel Giddens for their inside play.

“Our big guys needed to be aggressive because (Yoelli) Childs puts a lot of pressure on you down low. We still aren’t rebounding the ball on the offensive board and that’s something we will have to be better at tomorrow.”

The Crimson Tide led by as many as 13 points in the first half and was up 42-31 at the break. Petty made all three of his first-half 3-point attempts and had 11 of his 16 points in the half.

Crimson Tide freshman Collin Sexton saw his streak of 20-point games end, but was still able to score in double figures, hitting for 10 points on 3 of 11 shooting. Dazon Ingram added 13 points for UA.

Childs had a double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds) to lead BYU, which fell to 3-2 on the season.

Alabama will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, facing No. 14 Minnesota at the Barclay’s Center. The game is scheduled to tip at 4 p.m. CT.

basketball_guy> Excellent write up of the game.

If Simon was let go because of political reasons as you posted previously that is a real shame on the triple AAA, Alabama Athletic Administration.

Especially since he is responsible for the players that he recruited 2years ago for that 5th ranked recruiting class as you posted above.

Too bad the UMaine athletic administration wouldn't take your advice and let Walsh go (NOW) and replace him with Simon.

They will, it is not a matter of if, just a matter of when. That will be a great day for UMAINE BASKETBALL.

Brawk at Barkley Center in Brooklyn: Alabama forced to play 3 on 5 against Minnesota.

https://www.si.com/college-basketball/2 ... -ejections

With 12 minutes left, Alabama was forced to play with just five players against Minnesota. But just one minute later, point guard Dazon Ingram fouled out, ensuing in a four-on-five matchup for the remainder of the game. But the insanity didn't stop there. Shooting Guard John Petty landed awkwardly on a 3-point shot, leaving head coach Avery Johnson with just THREE eligible players against Minnesota.

Even though we lost we actually scored more points than Minnesota in the second half even going 3 on 5.

Not sure what brought all this on

"basketball_guy": Alabama's entire bench was ejected (probably for leaving the bench when a fight broke out on the floor between Alabama and their opponents). If players leave the bench area and come out onto the floor then they are automatically ejected.

That was what caused the 5 on 5 with 12 minutes to go.

IT IS THE COACHES RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP THEIR PLAYERS ON THE BENCH WHEN A FIGHT BREAKS OUT ON THE FLOOR.

Yes, I agree with that as well. It reflects badly on the program.

Is it true that Moses was the Coach that left after the Texas Tech game?

Because Bob Simons page is now pretty empty. Moses appears to be still there.

"basketball_guy": It was posted here on MBR by a fan that Moses did leave after the Texas Tech game.

Evidently no one has removed his name from the coaches staff biographies.

If you go to goblackbears.com and hit roster of the Maine men's basketball team and then scroll down to the coaches biographies, and hit Full Bio directly under Bob Simon's name, his up-to-date and complete resume and biography is there, which is very impressive.

It would be an even worse disaster if he was to leave.

Hopefully, the AD will come to his senses soon....for the good of the basketball program.

"basketball_guy": I just don't think it will happen even if Maine is 0-15 or 2-13 (as they play non D-1 UMPI and UMM , Maine should beat them) at the end of the non-conference games. Maine just does not want to pay off coaches before their contracts are up.

I would very, very surprised if that ever happened.
