Getting Real Close

Postby Archer Bunker » Wed Nov 22, 2017 8:32 am

Football 4-6
MBB 0-4
Hockey 4-6

It must be getting real close for all you UMO faithful to start screaming for a new coach!
Just fire them and replace them and that will solve the problem. Correct? Hey Rick Pitino is available
maybe he could straighten out the BBall program and right the ship.

Nope...just the basketball coach needs replacing at this point. He is in the final year of his contract...we all knew that he was coming back.

Anyway...you & I are part of only a handful of people that care. That's pretty apparant just by looking at the lack of people posting on this site.

Football coach has only been in place 2 seasons. They aren't exactly a train wreck. 4-6 could have easily been 7-3 or better. Not that far off.

Men's hoops? Haven't been competitive in 20 years? Not all Walsh's fault, it was like that when he got here. I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel even if they do send him packing.

Hockey. Dumpster fire. This is the 1 program , that when winning , can carry a campus. They seem to be , maybe, just maybe turning the corner? If they flounder and finish like they did last year, it will be time to do something different with the leadership of that program.

Very true Jeff.......... and also very sad. One thing I have learned over the years is that the UMaine fans (the younger generation) really don't give a crap about the teams whereas the old UMO fans supported the teams no matter how good or bad the teams were. Remember the Cindy Bloggett days and the hockey teams of the Shawn Walsh era, or even the Andy Bedard days. There were many true fans in those days and even before that.
I do think the band needs a new coach though.....or do they even have a coach? A conductor or whatever they call them.

I care guys... maybe too much.... the Stony Brook loss via radio was crushing...

I did like the Lowe article and am happy to see the guys are already in the gym. I think the building blocks are there for football.

My "Maine Alumni" magazine arrived today with Kariya and Montgomery on the cover. My daughter asked me why Maine can't be good like that anymore.... ugh.

Only watch the basketball so I'll comment on that. 4 years and this is what we have is not good enough. Period. A basketball coach can make a big difference in only a year and, especially, two years. But, they have to be able to coach. With this team, the same mistakes over and over. For instance, today, we had one player step out of bounds three times. Folks, that stuff is basic and middle schoolers don't do that in one season, let alone one game.

Crunch: AGREE WITH YOUR POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't knowing where you are is called "Spacial Orientation?

Isn't doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results the definition of (in this case) basketball insanity?

If it's not coaching, it must be "supervisor of substitutions!

I'd rather go down to Boston and catch a BC game. They recruit better players than Maine and the talent is much better.

You couldn't pay me enough to watch BC consistently get shoved in a locker and have their lunch money stolen by Clemson, Miami, Duke, UNC.
