Maine is scheduled to play at 4:00pm on Saturday. If they win it will be the championship game & if they lose it will be the consolation game.

mainejeff: Thanks for the help. Original schedule on goblackbears.com women's basketball website had it at 2:00pm. Double checked it after your post above and it has been changed on the website from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Makes sense as it gets 2 teams on the road quicker playing at 2:00pm.

Thanks again.

UMaine women’s basketball tip-off tourney starts Friday at Memorial Gym

...UMaine players are anxious to play at cozy, 82-year-old Memorial Gym, which holds 1,300 fans as compared to the four-year-old Cross Insurance Center (capacity 5,800).

“It’s really exciting,” said UMaine sophomore forward Blanca Millan. “It’s on campus and the fans will be great.

“Since we practice here every day, we really know the gym, the court and the baskets. And the fans will be close to us. They will be right above us,” added Millan.

“To have everyone packed in the gym is going to be a great environment,” said junior guard Tanesha Sutton. “It’s going to be spectacular having everyone looking down on us.”

UMaine opens season with plenty of questions
Despite the graduation of their top player and the loss of five players who transferred, the Black Bears hope to remain contenders.

...“I don’t know if we’ll have a go-to. One may emerge,” said interim coach Amy Vachon, still filling in for Richard Barron, who has been on medical leave since January.

Vachon’s team begins its season Friday with the two-day Maine Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Tournament. The Black Bears will play Tulane at 6 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium.

Maine’s top two scorers are gone – Koizar (14.1 points per game) and forward Laia Sole (9.4), who transferred. The Black Bears have their next four leading scorers back – guards Millan (8.6) and Julie Brosseau (6.8), guard/forward Tanesha Sutton (7.4) and forward Fanny Wadling (5.0).

“We’re pretty well rounded,” Vachon said. “We have a lot of different kids who can score.”

But will they?

In a stunning 68-49 exhibition loss to Division II Stonehill two weeks ago, the Black Bears looked confused on offense and defense. Millan and Wadling led the team with nine points each.

Good grief...what a pathetic offense! Is Richard Barron coming back? Is Vachon red-shirting the freshmen frontcourt? No thanks to the chuck-it-up offense!

Ugly, no one on this team can create any offense. Didn't watch the entire game but where was Brosseau, saw her on one possession but that was it. Saar can handle the ball but not quick or big enough to penetrate and kick. I know it is only one game but not a good start. Only one direction to go from here ;)
Boy do we miss Sigi.

Maine Jeff says it all. I was going write the same thing, only different words. Why be redundant? Other than "Ugh." To emphasize...no Williams, no Barra, no Carroll. Ugh, again.

mainejeff: I agree. 3 for 23 for 3's, 14-53 from the floor. Took 23 of their 53 field goal attempts as 3's which is 43.1% of the field goal attempts were 3's. NO INSIDE GAME AT ALL..live by the 3 die by the three and that is what they did tonight.

Wadling only got 5 shots and what is she doing posting up at the foul line and the free throw lane line extended?

34 points in 40 minutes less than 1 point a minute.
