#12/14 UNH Men’s Hockey Ties Vermont, 4-4

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior Ara Nazarian posted two goals and one assist for three points as the No. 12/14 University of New Hampshire men's hockey team tied Vermont, 4-4, on Saturday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Wildcats are now 5-1-1 overall (2-0-1 Hockey East), while the Catamonts are 2-4-1 (0-0-1 Hockey East). Freshman defenseman Benton Maass posted three assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead at 7:09 of the second period while on the power play when senior Michael McNicholas scored his second goal of the season.
The Catamounts then tied the game at 1-1 at 11:18 when Matt Alvato tipped in a wrist shot by Jake Massie.
UNH took a 2-1 lead at 14:17 of the second period as Nazarian went on a breakaway and had his first shot saved, but he was then able to recover the puck and then knocked it past Stefanos Lekkas for his second goal of the season.
The Catamounts tied the game at 2-2 just 45 seconds after the opening faceoff of the third period when Craig Puffer fired a wrist shot to the upper stick side corner of the net for the shorthanded goal.
Just 37 seconds later, Nazarian netted his second goal of the night to give UNH a 3-2 lead at 1:22 of the third period.
Then at 6:10, sophomore Brendan van Riemsdyk gave the Wildcats a 4-2 lead with his third goal of the season.
The Catamounts then cut the Wildcat lead to 4-3 at 8:52 in the third period with a goal by Matt O'Donnell.
With just 35 seconds remaining, O'Donnell tied the game at 4-4 with his second goal of the game to send the contest to overtime.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in overtime for the 4-4 final score.
