Falcons batter Patriots

NEW GLOUCESTER—The Lady Falcons climbed on top early – and remained on top for the duration – vs. the Lady Patriots on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 16. Emily Hargreaves added one for G-NG, but Natalie Anderson, Ally Randall and Hannah Groves notched two apiece for Freeport as the visitors cruised to a 7-1 W.

“Freeport has a lot of talent this year and their program is strong,” said G-NG head coach Christa Roddy. “Our team was definitely worried about this game, and that showed with how we played on Saturday. We see [Freeport] again at the end of the season and we’ll be working on focusing on our own skills rather than allowing them to control the game.”

“The goal-scoring,” said Falcons head coach Marcia Wood; “we’ve been winning, yes, but the past few games, just 1-0. With Lake Region, 1-0; Greely we only scored one; Fryeburg we only scored one. So our goal was to be more aggressive in both circles. And our passing game, we’ve been working our passing game. I think it looked really good today.”

Freeport takes the next step with win over Yarmouth

FREEPORT—Freeport’s field hockey team has been searching for a signature victory.

Tuesday afternoon at Hunter Road Fields, the Falcons found it.

At the expense of one of their biggest rivals.

And as a result, Freeport has now ascended up the ladder and has cemented its status as a top contender in Class B South.

Hosting a Yarmouth squad which hadn’t only beaten them five straight times, but had done so by a composite 16-0 margin, the Falcons came out with great energy and were rewarded just 3 minutes, 41 seconds in when freshman Ally Randall rattled the cage.

Freeport edges Fryeburg in OT thriller

FREEPORT—Redemption is a beautiful thing.

So is victory.

Especially sudden victory.

Freeport’s field hockey team had to deal with a little of everything Monday afternoon at Hunter Road Fields against visiting Fryeburg Academy and one Falcon in particular, junior standout Alexa Koenig, ran the gamut of emotions.

As the first half expired, Freeport, which took a 1-0 lead when junior Natalie Anderson scored on a rebound in the 12th minute, had a golden opportunity to double its lead, as off a penalty corner as time expired, a penalty stroke was awarded and Koenig took it, but her bid rang off the crossbar.
