Yarmouth starts new era with win at NYA

YARMOUTH—In a season full of change, Yarmouth’s field hockey team has done one thing consistently.

Play hard and find a way to win.

Friday afternoon, in their first game under new coaches Andrea Musante and Kristy Bernatchez, the Clippers took the shortest road trip possible, around the corner to North Yarmouth Academy, and continued to turn heads with their play.

Just over four minutes into the contest, a rebound tally from junior Kyaira Grondin put Yarmouth on top to stay.

Yarmouth plays nemesis York to scoreless draw

YARMOUTH—Yarmouth’s field hockey team has closed the long-standing, frustrating gap between itself and three-time defending Class B state champion York.

And Monday evening, on Senior Night, the host Clippers came within inches of their first win over the Wildcats in 15 seasons.

But when all was said and done, Yarmouth and York split Heal Points, leaving the Clippers hopeful they’ll get one more shot at the Wildcats later this month in the postseason.

York, Yarmouth play to scoreless tie
York is frustrated by a lack of finishing, and Yarmouth is pleased after an earlier loss to the Wildcats.

...The Wildcats (8-2-1) held a 14-5 edge in shots and a 16-3 edge in corners in regulation with most of them coming in the final 10 minutes, which were spent mostly in Yarmouth’s end of the field.

Most of Yarmouth goalie Cayte Tillotson’s nine saves came in that 10-minute stretch.

“In my mind I kept saying, ‘There’s no way it’s going in. There’s no way it’s going into my goal,’ ” said Tillotson, a field player who became the Clippers’ backup goalie last fall in the playoffs. “Obviously it takes whatever it’s going to take. Everybody gave everything they had.”

Bernatchez said the defense turned in a strong performance.
