$350K was the original guarantee if the game was played. What makes you think we could've gotten more with no game?

Need to find out if GSU's 1.1 million is buyout is the original contract with Memphis or if they were paid more to break their contract?
It doesn't seem unlikely that one would get more than the original contract as the hardship to UMaine, losing the game and the fans who have paid for travel plans and are all for not and basically UCF is going to prosper by getting Memphis and breaking their contract with Maine. :(

So let's discuss the implications to our playoff chances due to the cancellation of the game.
I think we all agreed that a 7-4 record would put us on the fence but still a pretty good shot of getting into the playoffs. But with one less game a 6-4 record probably not? So now we are looking at going 7-3 which means only two more losses to have a chance of a playoff spot. A loss at JMU means we would have to go 6-1 and would need to beat Villanova or win 6 league game in a row, tough task for sure ;)

I had 7-4 to start with UCF as a loss so this really does no harm. All they need to do is win seven games and they're in, especially with their schedule.

There should have been a buyout clause in the contract? If you try and pull the rug out from under us you pay an extra $$$$ ? If there wasn't, that's bad form and should be in any of those contracts going forward.

There was a freakin' Category 5 hurricane. Let's have a little perspective here.

I think we need 7 wins to get into the playoffs. This whole thing is unfortunate. Hopefully Maine can find another game... even if it has to be at home versus a D2 team... Need games to stay sharp and improve.

This is an interesting article on GSU's options with their open date on 9/30.

Also this is GSU's blog on the cancellation of their game. They still remember us beating them 51-7 in 2012 and alot of fans say why play us and give us 400K to lose to another FCS school. Yes GSU gets a much better contract than us their payout was 800K and 1.1 was the cancellation fee. Maybe Karlton can try to get our cancellation fee up for the next FBS game. ;)

Maine at GAST makes all sorts of sense... hopefully it happens. Could be a nice W and a loss wouldn't hurt us.
