Four-star Nolley progressing toward October decision

Landers Nolley is starting to move forward with the recruiting process after a full year of receiving attention from high-major programs. A few weeks back, Nolley put out a list of five official visits that consisted of Georgia, Illinois, Oklahoma State, UConn and Virginia Tech.

This past weekend, he took his first official visit to Illinois. Visits are set for Virginia Tech later this month and then Georgia and Oklahoma State during October. At this point, it looks like UConn is no longer a serious option for the four-star wing in the 2018 class.

Visit to Florida up next for Castleton

Colin Castleton was one of the major stock risers from the July evaluation periods. The Florida native showed off his combination of post-up skills and perimeter shooting ability as a 6-foot-11 power forward, and had coaches from all over excited about his potential.

Now a four-star prospect on Rivals.com and ranked No. 120 overall in the 2018 Rivals150, Castleton has plenty of options to choose from after July. Schools from all over the country came in, but Castleton is moving forward with the process with only seven schools under serious consideration.

Illinois had Castleton on campus last weekend for his first official visit. Originally scheduled to visit Florida in October, Castleton moved that visit up to Sept. 15 and then will visit Purdue on Sept. 29. Baylor, Florida State, Michigan and Notre Dame are the schools still in the mix

Indiana nabs Rivals150 forward Jake Forrester

Indiana kept the ball rolling with its 2018 class as Jake Forrester, a Rivals150 forward, committed to the Big 10 program on Monday. A versatile and hard playing prospect from Pennsylvania, Forester should immediately impact the Hoosiers with his motor and rebounding prowess.

After visiting Pitt and Seton Hall earlier in the month, and with two others set for Virginia Tech and Xavier, Forrester selected the Hoosiers after his official visit to Bloomington this past weekend. A long and active forward with an evolving skillset, Forrester is capable of extending the defense with the perimeter jumper, producing whenever the game speeds up, chasing down second chance boards and defending all three spots in the frontcourt.

Running with the PSA Cardinals unit on the travel circuit, Forrester’s father, Dwight, talked about the opportunity presented for his son at IU. “They lose six seniors this year. That's going to open up a lot of room. And that means a lot of opportunities,” he told Jordan Wells of TheHoosier.com.

Four-star guard Akinjo commits to UConn

Finding a replacement at the point guard position was a major need entering the month of September for the UConn men’s basketball program. On Monday, Kevin Ollie and his staff found the perfect answer as they landed the commitment of Rivals150 guard James Akinjo.

One of the top breakout performers from the July evaluation periods, Akinjo put together a monster performance at the famed Nike Peach Jam, leading his Oakland Soldiers unit to the championship. Named the tournament’s most valuable player, the Rivals150 guard averaged just under 19 points and seven assists, all while making close to half of his perimeter attempts.

Selecting UConn over California, Maryland, Virginia, and Iowa State, Akinjo spoke on his attraction to the AAC program.

Four-star forward @NazReid, Jay-Z's cousin, does commit to LSU after all
https://t.co/xW8ZAKSzSe

.... Naz Reid is headed to LSU after all.

Two weeks after Reid trolled college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein for announcing his commitment to LSU before he’d actually given a firm pledge, Reid did follow through on that prediction. The Roselle Catholic (N.J.) star committed to LSU Tuesday, choosing the Tigers ahead of Arizona. His commitment makes him part of LSU’s Class of 2018, which ends previous speculation that he could reclassify as a final member of the Class of 2017.

Reid announced his decision in a Twitter video that featured a series of highlights capped with Reid holding up a LSU basketball t-shirt.

Pennsylvania guard Tyrese Martin commits to URI

...Martin claimed offers from almost two dozen other schools, including Minnesota, Utah and Seton Hall and Atlantic 10 rivals St. Bonaventure, La Salle, Saint Joseph’s and Saint Louis. The physical 6-foot-6 wing will prep this season at Virginia’s Massanutten Military Academy after leading William Allen (Pa.) to a 26-3 mark last year. Martin played his grassroots basketball for We R1 in the Under Armour Association ranks, a key piece in the program’s back-to-back 17U national champions.

“I always try to compare him to a guy like Josh Hart,” said We R1 coach James Johns, referencing the former Villanova All-American. “He can shoot it, he can get it off the glass and he makes plays.”

Martin has an advanced relationship with three members of the URI staff, starting with new assistant coach Tom Moore. It was Moore who offered Martin a scholarship in 2016 while he was the head coach at Quinnipiac, where he spent the previous 10 years. Two of Moore’s recent guard recruits with the Bobcats – Mikey Dixon and Peter Kiss – have since moved on to St. John’s and Rutgers, respectively.
