Daley Announces for UMass Lowell

Salisbury School and Middlesex Magic guard Bryce Daley took to his twitter account to announce his commitment to UMass Lowell on Monday.

What was especially noteworthy though, was the way in which Daley made his announcement, as he brought attention back to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that was so popular last summer.

Myers ends up at South Carolina? That's an upgrade from Maine. Anyway, to have a winning record in America East you need to average 76+ points per game. They averaged 64 last year. Subtract Myers 17/game and you get 47 ppg. Where will the other 30 ppg come from?

"fromthebench": Good informative post.

Let me try to answer where those 30 points are going to come from. If they get enough touches to new true freshmen prepper from Lee 6'9" 240 lbs Mick Antoms from Latvia he will score 10 a game and when he is doubled down on the block he is very good at getting ball to open man for the open 3's and open layups should give them 10-15 more points per game and as Calixe averaged 7.6 and Er averaged 11 in non conference games before they got hurt.

Healthy Calixe should average 10 point a game and Er should be able to average 14 points a game....so Antoms 10 points a game, Calixe 10 and Er 14 that's 34 points from them so there is your 30 points. Also, that's not counting if they go inside outside enough they could add 10 to 15 more points.

2 Keys will be the spacing that Maine uses to get Antoms the ball on the block so that its difficult to double down on him with or without the ball and getting the perimeter players to look inside for him before the dribble or make a perimeter pass or take a shot. He should give Maine an effective inside first outside second offense.

The film I have see on Antoms shows to me that he is the best big man at UMaine since Allie Fraser as he has shown he has excellent skills and excellent hands for a young freshmen low post back-to-the-back on the block player. Surprised he didn't go higher D-1 wise. Could it have been Lee Preppers Location?

Ilker Er good 3 point shooter returning from knee injury after 11 games. Remember he had 20 points in a half against at Duke last year. Hope he can get last year back as 7 games is the NCAA rule for missing games due to injuries to get the year back as he played 11 games 4 over the rule of 7.. Calixe should be able to get the year back as he only played in 5 games if he choses to play another season after this year..

6'9" Antoms, The 4 JUCOS 6'5" Lowndes, 6'6" Douglas,, 6'1" Bryant, 5'10" Arugao all junior guards and 2 transfer guards I. White 6'5" and 6'5" Dusan M. from LaSalle are now eligible.

They are a stronger group (because Calixe only played 5 games and Er only 11 are back from injuries and did not play in any conference games last season) then the group transferring out this past spring including Myers.

In my opinion they are the most experienced team that Walsh"s has had and the most talented all around with 6'0" Calixe, 6'6' Er, 6'7" Fleming, 6'7" Ilija S., 6'5" Evans, walkons 6'1' Ashley and 6'1' Melmad, returning as 6'8" Eze is out for the year with corrective surgery and the new 7 incomers.

Maine has good oveall size especially for the 21st ranked America east Conference out of 32 last year.

If after the non-conference schedule, UMaine decides on just to use 8 players and hoping that they are able to go inside-outside effectively in the non-conference games then I think they have the potential to go at a minimum 8-8 and finish in the middle of the AE Conference final regular season standing to get a home quarter-final tourney game and even get a tourney win in the quarter-finals.

If they use 10 plus players per game and if they don't go inside enough then it is up in the air to me as how they will do come conference play.

Just my opinion, the positive, (use just 8 players come conference time, go inside first then outside second with good floor spacing offensively to force double downs and double teams on the low post man,) versus the negative using more then 10 players per conference game and do not go inside enough because of poor ineffective spacing offensive sets).

If it becomes and is the positive side and then I have optimistic feelings about the coming season and maybe even include the law of averages for a .500 plus conference record.

Use the non-conference schedule to use more players per game to decide who is going to be your 8 conference game players.

44 days until Maine starts on October 1st. Really looking forward to the coming season.
