more on Moss:

UMaine men's basketball "likely" to offer Portland star Moss

...A source indicated early Wednesday Moss received an offer from UMaine, which was followed by a tweet from Moss' AAU program, Blue Wave Basketball.

Shortly after, a high-ranking source within the Maine basketball program indicated to ABC 7 and Fox 22 Moss has not received a formal offer from the program at this time, though UMaine does have heavy interest in the Bulldog. They said the team will be meeting with Moss in the fall, and said he is "likely" to receive an offer of sorts. The staff is said to be "very high" on him.

Shortly after this, the AAU program deleted its tweet claiming he had received the offer.

Major conference foes dot 2017-18 UMaine men’s basketball schedule

...“We’ve got a mature group of guys that I think will be excited about the challenge.”

Six of the nonconference matchups are so-called “guarantee games”, with UMaine being paid a guaranteed sum to play on an opponent’s home court. Guarantee games this year are at Boston College, Texas Tech, Georgetown, St. Joseph’s of Pennsylvania, Fordham and UMass.

UMaine played four guarantee games last year, at Virginia Tech, Providence, Buffalo and Duke, that generated a total of $325,000 minus expenses for the school’s athletic department.

“We certainly face financial challenges and we have an opportunity to help out in a way that other sports can’t,” said Walsh. “That’s part of our challenge, there’s certainly a financial component to it.”

The past two summers I have had the opportunity to talk hoops with Vincent Eze. He is very high on this year and big supporter of Coach. He says a major focus is a change in off-season conditioning for the team to stay healthy. I find him to be a high character kid who will graduate with his Masters from his red-shirt year.

Hopefully double digits in wins, a few quality wins will get Coach Walsh extended and with Amy taking her reins Maine's only D1 program shines with both programs.

ExpoEddie: Good informative post. If Eze is ready to go physically along with lone freshmen 6'9" 245lb center Mick Antoms from Lee Preppers gives Maine solid BIGS on the low block. To me Antoms is stronger offensively on the block then Eze.

This should be the most experienced team that Coach Walsh has had with so many returnees, experienecd junior JUCO transfers and just one freshmen.

Walsh will probably have to go at a minimum 8-8 in conference play. Finish in top 4 so they get a home game for the quarter-finals of the American East Tournament. This would give Maine a good chance for a win and move into the semi-finals. However, who really knows if that will be good enough for Walsh to get his contract renewed.

The past two seasons with so many transfers has really disrupted this program from a successful building job so far.

All the transfers has forced Maine to go with experienced JUCO incoming transfers.

John Massaad apparently is going to play at Maine according to Ben Teer... Can anyone confirm?

Are you sure it's not one of the small Maine colleges? Massad was a solid player for Machias High School. He would be better suited for the UMPI or UM Machias level of basketball in my opinion. Maybe he is trying out for a walk on spot, you never know?
