Machias Memorial Grad. Mersereau to Continue Hoops Career at UMFK

MACHIAS, MAINE (WABI) - One of the major figures in the Machias Memorial boys basketball state title run this year, is heading to play college ball in state. James Mersereau is heading to UMaine Fort Kent to continue his basketball career. The Bengals are returning just 4 guys, after going 25 and 11, one of their best seasons in 30 years. James should be a good fit. Hopefully he'll grow some more both on and off the basketball court in the county. Tom Bird is pretty excited to get him. James is joined by Caribou's Andre Rossignol, as the Mainers, in UMFK's incoming class

Machias' Mersereau and Caribou's Rossignol to play at UMFK

FORT KENT - The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's basketball team is set to get a shot in the arm from two of the North's best players next season.

Machias' James Mersereau and Cairbou's Andre Rossignol will head to UMFK next year, as part of the school's 2017-2018 recruiting class. The Bangor Daily News was first to report of the class, which also includes several other junior college additions to round out the incoming group.

Mersereau, Rossignol among UMFK men’s basketball recruits
...Among those set to join coach Tom Bird’s Bengals this fall are two Maine high school products, James Mersereau of Machias and Andre Rossignol of Caribou, along with junior college additions from California, Florida, Michigan and Oregon.

UMFK finished 23-9 last winter, the program’s winningest season since 1983, and earned a trip to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association championship where the Bengals scored their first national tournament victory before falling in the semifinals to Illinois Tech in double overtime.

The incoming recruits will be asked to help replace a class of graduates that included two USCAA All-Americans, Joe McCloskey of Howland and Rosevelt Smith Jr. That duo combined to average 34 points and 17 rebounds per game last winter.

Jared Browne Added to Thomas College Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff

The Thomas College athletic department has announced the hiring of Jared Browne as an assistant men’s basketball coach for the 2017-18 season. Browne will join head coach Geoff Hensley for his fourth season at the helm of the Terriers.

Browne previously led the Winslow High School boy’s program to an 85-34 record from 2011-2017. During his tenure at Winslow, the Black Raiders won at least 10 games and made the postseason each year, including their first trip since 2003 to the 2015 Eastern Maine Finals.

Prior to his time at Winslow, Browne earned his first varsity head coaching job at Oak Hill High School from 2009-2011. At Oak Hill, he led the program to win the most games in 15 years at the school during the 2010 season.

Husson Eagles‏ @HussonUEagles
@hussonmbb Receives Another Commitment for 2017-18 Season from Corey Kaise #HUeagles

...The 6-foot-3 point guard becomes the fourth Floridian to commit to Husson in 2017. He was a four-year varsity player for the Trojans, helping them win a district championship and make a regional finals appearance in 2016.

Last season, Kaiser led Evans in assists (7.0 per game), steals and field goal percentage (.540) while averaging 10 points per game. He captained the team to a No. 6 state ranking.

“Corey comes from a great program and basketball tradition” said Husson coach Warren Caruso in a release. “He’s a big, athletic point guard who will give us a lot of versatility at the point guard spot.”
