Don't blame the Celtics for missing on Paul George
Danny Ainge reportedly offered a much better deal for Paul George than did the Thunder. It’s not his fault Indiana passed.

...Below the surface, it’s clear that the Celtics’ failure to strike isn’t for lack of trying. ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported that Ainge offered Indiana three non-premium picks, Jae Crowder, and another Celtics starter (presumed to be Avery Bradley) for George during the draft. Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald independently reported the same, and added that the Celtics made an even better offer at the February deadline: a 2017 pick swap that involved Brooklyn’s selection, which became No. 1 overall.

Larry Bird ran the Pacers in February. He should have taken that deal from the Celtics. Kevin Pritchard ran the Pacers on draft night. He should have taken the Celtics’ offer.

Another strike out for Ainge....loses PG with 3 times the assets and better offers.....why?

Because Ainge is not trusted and more than disliked.....every GM In NBA hates his guts....

listen to old speed....there is something visceral going on here.....it's not business , it's personal....Ainge personal qualities are getting in the way of straight forward mutually beneficial business....Oklahoma just stole George....yes, gang, Ainge is an arrogant smartest guy in the room a$$hole....

Jimmy Butler to Timberwolves for peanuts
Paul George to OKC for chump change
Blake Griffin ( Plan B ) resigns with LA Clippers

Arrogant A$$hole Ainge 0 for 3

Wonder if any self doubt has crept into Danny's big fat ego....I doubt it....

You guys think the old man is an old raving washed up lunatic....but my insight is still good...

It may be because all the teams in the East see the Cavaliers coming back to the pack. And keeping George off the Celtics keeps them status quo as 2nd best team in the East. That makes many other teams feeling they can make a run to the top sooner versus 5 years down the road if Celtics landed one big prize in free agency. So send George to Oklahoma and they get slightly closer to GS, but to Indiana, who cares.

I'm not comparing the two, but Red was considered the leagues Arrogant A$$ GM for about 30 years, and as a coach for many years prior. I'm happy they didn't sign Griffin (re; Ellsbury to the Yankees), or Rent-A-George. Mixed feelings on Butler, but Heyward fits the system better. It's maybe 50/50 to get him as more money and Utah have a lot to offer him. Ainge will have zero bearing on Heywards choice, but he will get the credit or the blame.

Let us not forget DeMarcus Cousins and Kevin Durant failures to close as well....Ainge can't close a deal....

DeMarcus Cousins
Kevin Durant
Jimmy Butler
Paul George
Blake Grifin
.......Celtics hyped and wanted these guys....everyone ended up elsewhere...don't speak of Ainge in same breath as Red...

Every team in the NBA does not like the Celtics because of all those Golden years and all those Championship banners hanging in the Garden. Jealously or whatever they do not want the Celtics to win anymore Championships. So for the genius Danny Ainge to acquire a top player he is going to have to give up a lot more than other teams to land a top player. All the other GM's in the NBA are well aware of how good Danny Ainge is and they are afraid to deal with him as he just might make them look foolish. And there is no one more afraid of Ainge than Pat Riley of the Miami Heat. He knows better than anyone how good Danny Ainge is.

Rudyard Kipling gave sage advice to his son in the iconic poem " IF ".....among the advice was not " to look too good or talk too wise "....Ainge would do well to dig out the poem and read it...

Prediction.....Hayward chooses Boston

Stevens and rising contender competitive challenge trump Miami weather and no income taxes and Utah familiarity and slightly higher salary.....he opts for competitive challenge....

Teams could know as early as tonight....within 24 hours most likely.....48 at latest....
