Pfeiffer earns place in Bowdoin College Athletic Hall of Honor
Lacrosse was one of his passion as he played, coached, officiated the sport

LINCOLNVILLE — Robert Pfeiffer was as much a difference maker in his days as a athlete as he has proven to be during his professional life.

And now the 71-year-old, who has spent the past few decades as a guidance counselor, has been recognized for his athletic acumen, notably though his contributions to Bowdoin College in Brunswick.

Pfeiffer was inducted into the Bowdoin College Athletic Hall of Honor on Saturday, Oct. 8, along with five other Polar Bear athletic standouts.

Dave Gonyea, longtime CMCC AD and coach, to be inducted into USCAA Hall of Fame

... "One of the biggest lessons he's taught me in my time at CMCC is, just because something is good for CM, doesn't mean it's good for the league," CMCC women's basketball coach Andrew Morong said. "And sometimes, what's best for the league, isn't best for CM. Understanding that big picture, he grasped that early on. Being able to navigate the fine line, what's best for everyone else, and selfishly what's best for CM, he does that effortlessly."

Many of the philosophies Gonyea used to help create the league from the shadow of the crumbling NSCAA, which preceded the current league, are apparent to those around him at CMCC today.

"His impact goes beyond college basketball, or men's basketball," Morong said. "I think he's impacted basketball statewide, from feeder programs to colleges.

"The game of basketball is a tool he uses to teach life lessons to young men from all across the world now," Morong added. "It's a tool to get them prepared for the real world, the next stop in their journey."

Coach Morang: What an outstanding post about Dave Gonyar's career at CMCC.

Great to see a college coach being allowed by the administration to teach "Life Lessons", as Maine doesn't have enough high school powers-to-be doing that today to allow their coaches who want to teach "Life Lessons", let alone Colleges.

It does my old basketball heart good to see that a college coach like Dave wants to teach "life lessons" in today's political climate.

Always enjoyed reffing Dave's teams games at EMCC over the years as they always were a first class operation.

Congratulations to Coach Gonyar for being inducted into the USCAA Hall of Fame, well-deserved as he has served the conferences CMCC was/is a member of very well over the years.

CMCC certainly has to be proud of his career at CMCC.

Also, the fact that the CMCC's men's and women's basketball teams are the only college basketball teams in Maine at any level, D-1, D-3, NAIA's 2 divisions to win national championships. Congratulations again for that great feat Coach Morang and Coach Gonyar.
