Husson To Become Eighth Commonwealth Coast Football Member in 2019

...SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Husson University has been granted associate membership in Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) and is scheduled to begin play in 2019.

Husson becomes the eighth football member accepted into the conference, joining Curry, Endicott, Nichols, Salve Regina, the University of New England, Western New England, and fellow associate member Becker.

The CCC will assume operations of the New England Football Conference (NEFC) in 2017 and will rebrand the league as Commonwealth Coast Football. In the 2017 season, six teams – Becker, Curry, Endicott, Nichols, Salve Regina, and Western New England – will compete for the automatic qualifier with UNE scheduled to play its first varsity season in 2018. Husson will round out the membership in 2019.

“Commonwealth Coast Football is delighted to welcome Husson University as our newest member,” said CCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. “Husson is one of the strongest football programs among Division III private institutions in New England, and their addition makes CCC Football stronger. Since our September 2015 announcement that the New England Football Conference would be rebranded as Commonwealth Coast Football for the 2017 season, finding an eighth quality program has been a major priority for our membership. I am delighted that Husson has accepted our invitation to join CCC Football.”

Husson football to join new conference

...Conferences must have at least seven teams to earn the automatic qualifier but the CCC Football has received an exemption.

“This is a good step forward for us. It will elevate our program,” said Husson director of athletics Frank Pergolizzi. “There’s no question the level of competition will be up a notch from the ECFC.”

He also noted that it will reduce the travel budget.

“It’s an all-New England conference so we won’t have to make the long trips to Gallaudet [Washington D.C.] and Alfred State [N.Y.]. We’ll also be in a conference with another Maine school,” said Pergolizzi. “We’ve never played an away football game in the state of Maine. And when we play at UNE, we won’t have to stay overnight.”

Husson gives CCC its eighth football program

The Commonwealth Coast Conference board of directors announced that Husson has been granted associate membership in Commonwealth Coast football and is scheduled to begin play in 2019.

Husson, in Bangor, Maine, becomes the eighth football member accepted into the conference, joining Curry, Endicott, Nichols, Salve Regina, the University of New England, Western New England, and fellow associate member Becker. Husson is currently a member of the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference and has been since the conference's founding in 2009.

The CCC assumes operations of the New England Football Conference in 2017. In the 2017 season, six teams – Becker, Curry, Endicott, Nichols, Salve Regina, and Western New England – will compete for the automatic qualifier with UNE scheduled to play its first varsity season in 2018. Husson will add to the membership in 2019.

Dunn named Colby football offensive coordinator

WATERVILLE, Maine — Dave Dunn, an experienced coach who led teams at Catholic University of America and Becker College, has been named the new offensive coordinator for the Colby College football team.

Dunn, who has worked at nearly every level of college and high school football, will also be the position coach for Colby’s quarterbacks.

“Coach Dunn brings a great deal of experience to Colby,” Colby head coach Jonathan Michaeles said in a release. “We are thrilled to have his expertise on the offensive side of the ball. He is a proven leader who will continue to develop our offense and the quarterback position.”
