LUPONE/PINE EARN KEY WIN IN COLBY'S 5-4 VICTORY OVER CAMELS

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Maddie Lupone and Jamie Pine fought back from down 7-2 at second doubles to pull out a key victory in Colby College's 5-4 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC women's tennis Saturday.

The Mules improve to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC heading into Sunday's 10 a.m. match at Hamilton College.

Colby, ranked 16th in the Northeast Region, also got a doubles win from Lydia Venditti and Gabriela Venditti to take a 2-1 lead after three matches.

Lydia Venditti went three sets to win the first singles position by scores of 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. Gabriela Venditti and Lupone both win in straight sets, with Lupone giving up just two games at third singles.

Lupone and Pine were one game away from losing the second doubles match, but ran off seven straight games to pull out the 9-7 victory. The Venditti sisters won 8-3 at first doubles.

NO. 29 COLBY MEN'S TENNIS HANDLES CONN COLLEGE

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Carl Reid had the toughest singles match of the day, but came away with a win at the first position for Colby College in an 8-1 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC men's tennis Saturday.

The 29th-ranked Mules (9-3 overall, 1-2 NESCAC) will play at Hamilton College on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Reid took a 7-5, 6-3 win over Charlie Williams, while Vlad Murad coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles. The two teamed up for an 8-3 win at first doubles.


Scott Altmeyer, Shaw Speer, Cam Hillier, and Jonathan Hallal also had singles wins for the Mules. Zale Shah and Altmeyer won 8-6 at third doubles.

COLBY MEN'S TENNIS HANDLES HAMILTON, 8-1

CLINTON, N.Y. -- The 29th-ranked Colby College men's tennis team reached double digit victories for the season and won all six singles matches in an 8-1 win over Hamilton College on Sunday.

The Mules improved to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in NESCAC play, while Hamilton dropped to 4-11 and 0-4 in the league.

Shaw Speer went to a pro-set in fifth singles to win his match and teamed with Cam Hillier for a victory at third doubles. Hillier was a straight set winner at sixth singles.

Carl Reid, Vlad Murad, Scott Altmeyer, and Zale Shah also had straight set victories in singles play.

Reid and Murad were 8-4 winners at first doubles.

COLBY: WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS 5-4 MATCH AT HAMILTON

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Emily Dyckman won at sixth singles and teamed with Aleks Piibe for a third doubles win for Colby College in a 5-4 loss at Hamilton College in NESCAC women's tennis Sunday.

Both teams are 8-4 overall and 1-3 in NESCAC play.

Dyckman won 7-6, 6-1 in the closest of the six singles matches. She and Piibe won 8-2 at the third doubles spot.

Maddie Lupone took a 6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles and Jamie Pine gave up just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 romp at the fifth position.

The Mules lost tough 9-8 (6) and 8-6 doubles matches to fall behind 2-1.
