COLBY MEN'S SQUASH ENDS SEASON RANKED 23RD AFTER BEATING AMHERST

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- In a match with six final scores of 3-2, the Colby College men's squash team pulled out a 5-4 victory over Amherst College in the 23rd/24th-ranked match at the College Squash Association Team Championships on Sunday.

The Mules (14-12 overall) had 3-2 wins from Will McBrian at the first position, Will Pepi at the fifth spot, and Matt Epstein at eight. Hugh Doherty won by a 3-0 margin at the fourth position and captain Patrick McCarthy took a 3-1 victory at the second spot.

McBrian, Epstein, and Pepi all won the opening two sets, lost the next two, and came up with clutch wins in the fifth set. Epstein won 13-11 in his fifth set at the eighth position. McBrian won 11-6 in the final set and Pepi took an 11-7 win.

McCarthy closed his career with 47 victories. He was tied for the team lead in wins this year at 14 with Epstein and Pepi. McBrian, a junior, has 38 career wins.

COLBY WOMEN'S SQUASH WINS FIRST MATCH AT TOURNEY

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 25th-ranked Colby College women's squash team started National Team Championship play Friday with a 9-0 victory over 32nd-ranked Bucknell University on Friday at Princeton.

The Mules (11-15) are the the top seed in the Epps Cup (Division D) for teams ranked 25th to 32nd. Colby will play a semifinal match Saturday at 2:15 p.m. against 29th-ranked Mount Holyoke.

The Mules won all nine matches by 3-0 scores, including an easy win at the first position for Devin Mullaney. Madiha Molani had the closest set of the day, winning 12-10 before easier 11-4 and 11-5 wins at the second spot.

Julianna Song, Olivia Silverman, Cricket di Galoma, Caroline Pelham, Lily Wain, Ren Robinson, and Elise O'Brien had the other wins. Wain won her 20th match of the season.
