Women's Hockey Signs Vendula Pribylova

Orono-Maine -- The University of Maine hockey coaching staff welcomes Vendula Pribylova to the roster for the 2016-2017 season.

Vendula hails from Olomouc, Czech Republic and played for HK Hokej Sumperk 2003 a men's team in the Czech Republic. She has represented her county many times, having played in three U18 world championship's and five senior national team world championship's for the Czech Republic.

"Vendula is a skilled forward with good size standing at 5'7". We were able to see Vendula play numerous times with her national team and her speed and offensive instinct was something that stood out to us right away. We noticed she is not a player who shy's away from contact which is a rare combination with her skill. We liked Vendula's versatility to succeed both at center and wing. We can not wait to get on the ice and being to work with Vendula and are excited she chose to be a Black Bear." -Richard Reichenbach

Scarborough forward Max Bogdanovich commits to UMaine men’s hockey team

... He said he probably won’t attend UMaine until the 2020-2021 season.

Bevis, a former University of Massachusetts defenseman, said Bogdanovich is a prototypical blue collar power forward.

“He’s a raw talent. He will really fit in at Maine,” said Bevis. “He knows how to chip the puck into the defensive zone and hammer defensemen. He keeps it simple and isn’t afraid to go into the dirty areas. He could use some quickness but he has a lot of power in his stride once he gets going.

“He’s also very mature for his age,” added Bevis.

Bogdanovich said Bevis has been a “good resource” for him and he is hoping to receive an invitation to try out for the United States National Team Development Program team, which will hold a camp in March in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

UMaine hockey defenseman skating out of NHL father’s shadow, forging own identity

ORONO, Maine — Stephane Matteau will always be remembered fondly by New York Rangers fans for his heroics during the 1993-94 season — the last time the organization won the National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup.

He scored two overtime goals in the Rangers’ Eastern Conference finals series against New Jersey, including the series-clinching wraparound goal in the second overtime of Game 7.

His daughter, 18-year-old Alyson Matteau, is carving out a hockey career for herself at the University of Maine.

The gritty, 5-foot-10 defenseman scored six goals and had six assists while playing in all 35 games last season despite dealing with back issues. She was third on the team in points and goals and had a team-high 64 penalty minute

Maine 0 at Quinnipiac 3

HAMDEN, Connecticut – After an impressive third period the night before, the UMaine women’s hockey team couldn’t find a way to score against Quinnipiac who swept the weekend series in their first two games of the season with a 3-0 win Saturday.

The first period remained scoreless as Quinnipiac outshot Maine 7-3 in the period, with both teams getting a power play opportunity in the first; Maine only getting 1 shot on the powerplay that period, QU only getting 2.

All three Quinnipiac goals came in the 2nd period; they opened up the scoring 6 minutes into the second period as Taylor Cianfarano scored her third goal of the weekend to put the Bobcats up 1-0. Then 11:45 into the period Meghan Turner slipped one just underneat the elbow of Maine Goaltender Carly Jackson glove side as they took a 2-0 lead. As the period was winding down Melissa Samoskevich sniped one from the left faceoff dot with 48 seconds remaining in the period to give QU their third and final goal.

Shots were even at 7 apiece in the third but no scoring occurred, as Quinnipiac was able to hold on to their 3 goal lead and improve to 2-0-0 on the season. Jackson had 22 saves on 25 shots. Sydney Rossman for Quinnipiac gets her second win with the shutout.
