Six set for induction into Old Town Athletic Hall of Fame

Six new names will be entered into the Old Town High School Athletic Hall of Fame this fall, according to an announcement by the school and the RSU 34 Educational Foundation.

The 2016 induction class includes Richard Carlow (Class of 1952), Diana (Perkins) Akerley (1980), Sterling LeBlanc (1965), Melanie (Brockway) O’Keefe (1986), Sarah Wilcox (2009) and longtime swim coach Doug Springer.

The inductees will be introduced at a reception prior to the homecoming football game against Foxcroft Academy on Sept. 23. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 4 p.m. in MacKenzie Gymnasium and include the induction ceremony, video tribute and light refreshments. The Class of 2016 also will be recognized at halftime of the football game, when they will receive their Hall of Fame plaques.

One of the top point guards in Maine HS history. That was an impressive and young team that won states. How many remember his play and that team ?

Five former standouts to join Old Town Athletic Hall of Fame

.... Matt Arsenault, the athletic administrator at Central High School in Corinth, was a three-year starter in basketball who scored a school-record 1,296 points and helped Old Town win the 1991 Class A state championship. He was a two-time Bangor Daily News All-Maine first-team selection and was named the state’s Mr. Basketball in 1993.
