That is again the case with the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference, which will soon be juggling its league lineup.

The ECFC on Wednesday announced that it will add Alfred State College of New York and Dean College of Franklin, Massachusetts, as members beginning in 2017.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL NOTES from luncheon:

... Bates coach Mark Harriman is looking forward to seeing how his defense plays this season.

“We return almost everybody. I’m excited at where we’ll be. We always try to hang our hat on defense,” Harriman said.

One of those key returning Bobcats is senior linebacker Mark Upton. A first team all-NESCAC player last season, Upton was second in the conference in tackles, with 71.

“He’s probably the best overall football player we have,” Harriman said.

The Bobcats open the season on Sept. 24 at Trinity

Colby: Former UMaine coach Kevin Bourgoin named assistant coach

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Kevin Bourgoin, who began his career at Colby College, returns to Mayflower Hill as an assistant coach for the football program.
.
Bourgoin will coach the Mules’ quarterbacks. He was the associate head coach for the University of Maine from March 2007 to January 2016. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during that time for former head coach Jack Cosgrove. Bourgoin coached wide receivers, tight ends, and fullbacks for the Black Bears starting in March 2005.

Bourgoin started his coaching career at Colby, working with the football and track and field programs from August 1997 to April 1998. He worked with the wide receivers and tight ends, and coached the sprinters with track and field.

"Coach Bourgoin will be a great addition to our staff. He understands the landscape of NESCAC football, having coached here at Colby and in the Ivy League," Colby head coach Jonathan Michaeles said. "He has also coached in arguably one of the most competitive leagues in all of football, the Colonial Athletic Association. He is a proven football mind and recruiter but more importantly, he is someone who cares about developing young people. He will be a great fit here at Colby."

Bourgoin's first coaching stint with the Black Bears was as wide receivers coach from April 1998 to February 2000. He took over as wide receivers coach at Brown University from February 2000 to March 2005.

Bourgoin was a four-year starter at wide receiver for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was a Vermont Football Player of the Year at Rutland High School and was a state track and field champion his final three years of high school in the 200-meter dash, 400 meters, 400 relay, and 1,600 relay.

Old Town’s Miller To Play Football At Husson

Old Town HS standout receiver Andre Miller is taking his football talents to Husson University this fall and will play for the Eagles.

The 6-foot-3 Miller caught 21 touchdowns for the Coyotes last fall and helped Old Town to an undefeated regular season and a playoff run to the Class C regional final. He was named 1st team all conference as both a receiver and defensive back.

In July, Miller caught four TDs and was named game MVP in the annual Shriner’s Lobster Bowl East-West All Star game.

Miller says he had been looking at the possibility of going to prep school but instead plans to attend Husson.
