Erie, Pa. - The Erie SeaWolves (48-69) rallied back from a 2-1 deficit, scoring four runs in the final two innings, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (45-71), 5-2, Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park. Portland dropped two of three in the series, and continues their six-game roadtrip on Friday night in Akron.

RubberDucks shut out Sea Dogs

Akron, Ohio - The Akron RubberDucks (60-60) received homers by Jordan Smith and Luigi Rodriguez, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (45-73), 3-0, Sunday at Canal Park. Sunday's game was delayed 4 hours 4 minutes at the start, and changed to a single-game 9-inning contest from the originally scheduled doubleheader.

Nick Pasquale (2-6) twirled six scoreless frames on 5 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts to earn the win for Akron. Mitch Atkins (3-7) was saddled with the loss, yielding 3 runs over 5.2 innings pitch.

Smith put Akron on the board with a two-shot in the fourth inning. Rodriguez added a solo-homer in the sixth.

Portland had a great chance in the first inning, loading the bases, but Ryan Court popped out to second base to end the threat.

Cole Sulser induced a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Jake Romanski to end the game, and notch his 5th save of the year.

Ty Buttrey retired all four batters faced and Luis Ysla pitched a scoreless eighth.

The Sea Dogs had 5 hits, as Aneury Tavarez went 1-for-3 to extend his on-base streak to 17 games.

Portland and Akron will not make up the second game of today's original doubleheader since the two teams don't play again this season.

The Portland Sea Dogs are off on Monday and open up a 5-game series in three days on Tuesday night against the Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) at Hadlock Field beginning at 5:00 PM.

Healthy Moncada potential upgrade at 3B

CLEVELAND — A yawn at third base might be fixed with a Yoan.

As long as top prospect Yoan Moncada is healthy, which is not a guarantee as the Red Sox wait to see how a Grade 1 left ankle sprain plays out, he needs to be on the big club.

The logic in favor of a look at the 21-year-old infielder is overwhelming. He’s trying his hand in the minors at third base, the weakest position the Sox have relative to other teams — 10th worst, by Baseball-Reference.com’s measure of WAR.
