Celtics 2015-16:
The Boston Celtics will compete in both the Utah Jazz and Las Vegas summer leagues in July. Here's a glance at the game schedule (all times Eastern):

Jazz Summer League at EnergySolutions Arena
Monday, July 6 vs. Utah, 9 p.m.
Tuesday, July 7 vs. Philadelphia, 7 p.m.
Thursday, July 9 vs. San Antonio, 7 p.m.

Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center
Saturday, July 11 vs. Portland, 8 p.m.
Sunday, July 12 vs. Philadelphia, 10:30 p.m.
Tuesday, July 14 vs. Miami, 7 p.m.

The Celtics will compete in additional playoff games in Vegas based on seedings after their initial three games.

Boston will announce its summer league roster after the draft later this month, but is likely to include this year's rookies, sophomores Marcus Smart and James Young, and overseas stash Colton Iverson. Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said last month that Kelly Olynyk was unlikely to participate since he'll spend time with the Canadian national team this summer, while the team was uncertain about how much time Phil Pressey would play this summer in order to allow Smart to maximize minutes at point guard. Pressey's $947,276 contract becomes guaranteed after July 15 and he's utilized summer league each of the past two seasons to cement his spot on the team.

Countdown to the draft: Centers
Might be time to find a 5

The importance of legitimate rim protectors never has been higher, and they never have been harder to find. Leave it to Golden State to turn the whole concept upside-down by discarding size on its way to the NBA title.

But perhaps the next big trend starts Thursday night, with a surprisingly deep draft for centers, each with something a little different to offer.

The Celtics, like most teams, always are on the watch for a better player in the middle. Though Tyler Zeller has emerged as a steady role player with an above-average ability to run the floor, they mostly have swung and missed here, as evidenced by the failed experiments with Vitor
Faverani and Fab Melo.

Most teams, though, won’t trade away positions in the draft to take the top members of this year’s center group.

Countdown to the draft: Celtics covet shooters

The Celtics could use an upgrade at virtually every position but there is one skill in particular that they want to improve.

They need scoring, and especially shooting. They are in the process of evaluating a guard who may eventually become the best shooter on the team — 2014 first-rounder James Young. Starting “2-guard” Avery Bradley may be one of the best ball pressure defenders in the NBA, but he also shot 33.3 percent in four playoff games against Cleveland this year. He may never be a consistent shooter.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens has already put out the order — pace and space. So they can afford to go to this department infinitely in the 3-point era. Those at the top of this list of shooting guards have to glimmer like jewels for Stevens and Danny Ainge.
