Tip-in lifts Skyforce past Maine in final seconds

The Red Claws tied the game at 62 on a Chris Babb 3-pointer with 4:50 to play in the third quarter, erasing what had been an eight-point Skyforce lead earlier in the period. Weber used a timeout shortly after that. "We needed to try and change the momentum," he said. "The momentum had shifted, and we needed to do whatever we could to shift the tide back in our favor. We had an amazing first half and had great intensity on defense, but that's a good offensive team. They were going to make a run." Coming out of the timeout, Maine's Omari Johnson scored on back-to-back trips down the floor and the Red Claws led 67-63. It was Maine's first lead since 41-40 in the second quarter, and the momentum was with the Red Claws. Maine outscored the Skyforce 25-11 in the third quarter and took a 72-65 lead into the final frame...

Leading the Charge: Holt, Canton Get Past Maine 99-88

The Canton Charge (3-3) overpowered the Maine Red Claws (4-2) for a 99-88 victory on Sunday evening. The win pulls the Charge to .500 in the young season both overall and at home (2-2).

Beginning with 10:54 left in the first, the Charge led for the entire rest of the first half and by as many as 12. Canton cleaned the glass for 29 first-half rebounds and were aggressive enough offensively to get to the line 20 times as a team. The hosts were led by Cavaliers assignment Alex Kirk’s 12 points (6-9 FGA) and held a 51-39 lead at intermission.

Canton maintained their advantage for the entire duration of the second half, immediately responding with a basket the only two times Maine cut the game to a single possession. The Charge finished the night outrebounding the Red Claws 50-36 and hit at least 50% of their attempts from the field for the second straight game, as they went 36-of-72 (50%) as a unit.

Arinze Onuaku posted his second double in as many games with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, 16 rebounds, and four assists in 37 minutes. Kirk finished with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting and six boards in 30 minutes. Justin Johnson came off the bench to provide clutch, run-stopping buckets en route to a team-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Stephen Holt added 17 points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes for Canton.

Jermaine Taylor paced Maine with his game-high 22 points on 8-of-18 shooting, seven rebounds, and four assists in 34 minutes. Tim Frazier supplied the Red Claws with 14 points, eight rebounds, and four steals in 38 minutes. Omari Johnson netted 14 points with six boards in 20 minutes off the bench, while Christian Watford added 18 points in 30 minutes for the visitors.

The Charge are back at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Saturday, December 6 at 7 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Red Claws Announce Expo Seating Upgrade

Seating To Be Renovated For 2015-16 Season

PORTLAND – March 10, 2015 – The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, will feature dramatically improved seating options at the Portland Expo for the 2015-16 season. The renovations were recently approved by the Portland City Council.

“We are extremely excited about these changes” said Red Claws chairman Bill Ryan. “Our fans have always been our top priority. The Red Claws have continually made improvements to the Expo in partnership with the city of Portland. This $350,000 private investment by the Red Claws into the Expo will not only benefit our fans but will benefit all users of the Expo.”

The Red Claws are working with Hussey Seating, based in North Berwick, Maine, to upgrade the Expo seating. All of the “sideline” seating at the Expo will be renovated. “Center-Court” seats will now feature individual stadium chairs with arms, while “Side-Center” seats will be upgraded to wider seats with a chair back. All seating will feature wider, more comfortable surfaces.

“The Portland Expo already has one of the best atmospheres in the NBA D-League,” said team president Dajuan Eubanks. “With the new seating plan, fans will still see all the great action and excitement of Red Claws basketball up close, now with much added comfort.”

Renovations to the Expo seating are expected to begin this summer, and will be completed in time for the start of the Red Claws’ 2015-16 season.

Claws rally for improbable 108-107 victory
Maine scores five points in 7 seconds to cap 19-5 home slate.

They saved the best for last. Then again, don’t they always? The Maine Red Claws closed out their regular-season home schedule in spectacular fashion Sunday afternoon, scoring five points in the final seven seconds to take their only lead of the game in a 108-107 NBA D-League basketball victory over the Grand Rapids Drive. Two days after they clinched a division title and top seed in the Eastern Conference, the Claws treated a crowd of 2,800 at the Portland Expo to an improbable comeback that wasn’t complete until officials reviewed – and overturned – an apparent buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Kevin Murphy of Grand Rapids with Maine’s James Young guarding him closely...

Defending D-League champion Fort Wayne sweeps Maine in first round.

PORTLAND — The Mad Ants’ postseason magic continues. The defending NBA D-League champions beat the Maine Red Claws 121-111 Saturday before a crowd of 2,437 at the Portland Expo to sweep their best-of-three playoff series 2-0. Fort Wayne awaits the winner of the Canton-Sioux Falls series, which resumes Monday night in South Dakota with Canton leading 1-0. Maine won the Atlantic Division with a league-best 35-15 record in the regular season and earned the Eastern Conference top seed. The Mad Ants, seeded fourth and the last team to qualify in the East, rallied to a 104-103 overtime victory Tuesday night in Indiana in Game 1 of the series...
