Maine vs. Husson

Postby OldTownBaseball » Fri Oct 03, 2008 10:11 am

At 1pm on Saturday, The University of Maine Black Bears will battle the Husson University Eagles at Mansfield Stadium in a Fall Baseball showdown.

Both rosters are full of local talent, so stop by and get an early bird glimpse of what you might be able to expect from both squads come spring.

Maine is led by Brewer's own, Kevin McAvoy who was named captain of the team (along with 3 others). Jarrett Lukas of Old Town, Kyle Stilphen of Gardiner, Jim Cox and Shane Walton of Bangor, Joe Martin of Portland, Tavis Hassenfus of Monmouth and Robbie Trask of Thornton (Saco) all figure to play prominent roles for the Bears in '09.

Husson is led by a strong core of Maine players, including former Eastern Maine area stars Chris McGuire of Bucksport, Corey Cushing and Mike Kotredes of Brewer, Jason Smith of Old Town and Ethan Gurette of Oak Hill just to name a few.

Maine is supposed to "handle them easily." Something would be wrong if they didn't..having said that, Husson should be pretty good this year. If their pitching holds up, they could go pretty far in the D3-New England ranks.

Should be fun to watch, alot of former teammates squaring off against each other and local rivals now facing off again at the college level.
