Cape Elizabeth battles back against Biddeford to remain unbeaten
Trying to restore their past glory, the Capers improve to 5-0 by winning the final three games at Biddeford.

... “(After we were down 2-0) we were just thinking, that wasn’t us,” said junior captain Megan Connelly. “We wanted to show up and come back. And we did.

“It’s great to know we can do it and rally and hype each other up.”

Connelly (22 kills) and senior captain Maggie Dadmum (20 assists) did most of the damage. Connelly had 14 kills in the third and fourth sets and Dadmum made very few bad decisions to key the comeback.

“Megan’s sophomore year last year was a breakout year for her,” said Cape Coach Sarah Boeckel. “She has become a smarter player this year and she can handle pressure when we need her to put a kill down. Today the other outside hitter struggled and I put more pressure on (Megan).

Cape outlasts Yarmouth in battle of unbeatens

CAPE ELIZABETH—The future is very bright for Yarmouth’s volleyball team.

But the future is now for the Cape Elizabeth Capers.

Two of the state’s best teams, both without a loss and coming in riding a wave of momentum after pivotal victories, did battle in an entertaining early-season match Thursday evening in Cape Elizabeth’s gym and suggested that they might meet again with even more at stake.

Cape outlasts Falmouth in yet another volleyball thriller

FALMOUTH—There isn’t much separating the Cape Elizabeth and Falmouth volleyball teams.

And if things go as expected, the rivals will meet again next month with even more at stake.

Tuesday evening, the once-beaten Yachtsmen welcomed the undefeated Capers for a pivotal midseason showdown and some two palpitating hours later, while Cape Elizabeth prevailed in four close sets, it was fans of the sport who were the ultimate winners.

Cape sweeps Scarborough to stay perfect

CAPE ELIZABETH—When two of the state’s best volleyball teams square off, the expectation is that four, or even five sets will be necessary to determine a winner.

Thursday evening, undefeated Cape Elizabeth hosted a once-beaten Scarborough team which has played in the past two state finals and the prospect of a long evening was in store, but as they have all autumn, the Capers continued to raise the bar and made surprisingly quick work of the Red Storm.

Scarborough took an 18-13 lead in the first set, but Cape Elizabeth likes nothing more than rallying from a deficit and thanks to strong serving from senior captain Anna Torre and junior Tess Dolan, the Capers roared back and a Torre kill produced a 25-23 victory to set the tone.

Cape Elizabeth remains unbeaten
The Capers rally in the first set and control the match from there, sweeping Scarborough.

...“I think we just had to relax and be like ‘wait, we’ve been down before, we know how to come back. (Scarborough is) good, but they are just another team.’ We know how to pass the ball, hit the ball, and make plays happen,” said Boeckel.

Out of the timeout, the Capers rattled off six straight points to take the lead, and it was Scarborough’s turn to call a timeout.

“I just think we’re tough. We love a long point, we love a rally, we’re just tough, mentally really tough right now,” said Boeckel.

Cape Elizabeth won the set on a kill by junior Megan Connelly.
