Camden Hills, Iltis prove too fast among Class A girls; Rothwell soars to first in jayvee race

AUGUSTA — The Camden Hills girls cross-country team, one of the most deeply-talented female distance running groups in Midcoast history, took one small step — albeit at a significantly fast pace — in the Windjammers' season-long quest to capture high school league, regional and state championships.

The Windjammers, unbeaten in regular-season and postseason meets thus far (they did finish second in the Festival of Champions, which included teams from New England and Canada), ran to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A title on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Cony High School.

Race photos from this event will appear later with this story.

Camden Hills, led by individual champion Grace Iltis and runner-up Augusta Stockman, competed in the Class A portion of the league meet, while Belfast, Medomak Valley and Oceanside runners participated in the Class B portion of the championships.

Class A and B student-athletes competed in one boys and one girls race, then were separated by class to determine the individual and team results. ... -b/1696147
