The following weekend, the Pirates will play their first home games of the season, with Opening Night on Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. against the Hershey Bears, AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals. Home opening weekend continues with another game against the Bears on Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m. This is the first of eight instances in which the Pirates will play host to the same team in back-to-back games.

There will be three Pirates Legend Bobblehead Giveaways this season. This year’s Pirates Legend Bobblehead Giveaways will include Maine native, long-time NHLer, and former Pirates defenseman and Assistant Coach Eric Weinrich, former Pirates Head Coach and current Washington Capitals Coach Barry Trotz, and former Pirate and Boston Bruin, and current Florida Panther forward Shawn Thornton. The Pirates Legend Bobblehead Giveaways dates, along with the entire Promotional Schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Pirates will face the Utica Comets, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, for the first time ever on Wednesday, November 4 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, New York. The 2014-15 Western Conference Champions move to the Eastern Conference for their third AHL season and will make their only visit to Portland to play a two-game series on Black Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28. Both games will be at 7:00 p.m.

The Pirates face the Rochester Americans, the AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, for the first time since the 2009-10 season, on Halloween, Saturday, October 31 at Cross Insurance Arena. The game will have a special 3:00 p.m. start time. Portland travels to Rochester to face the Americans in a rematch of the 1996 Calder Cup Final at Blue Cross Arena on Friday, February 19.

The game will take place at Air Canada Centre, the home of the Marlies’ NHL affiliate, the Toronto Maple Leafs, beginning at 2:00 p.m. It will be Portland’s first game at an NHL arena since the Pirates hosted Rochester at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York on March 7, 2010.
