No wonder three of their defensive stars have been chosen as finalists for NHL awards. And a clean sweep of the regular-season prizes is possible: Zdeno Chara for the Norris Trophy given to the best defenseman, Patrice Bergeron for the Selke Trophy that goes to the top defensive forward, and Tuukka Rask for the Vezina Trophy awarded to the best goalie...

Bruins ready for rivalry round in the playoffs
Boston and Montreal meet for the 34th time in the playoffs, beginning Thursday night.

BOSTON — Claude Julien knows all about this rivalry. He coached Montreal for three seasons, and now he’s in charge in Boston. “I hated Boston when I was in Montreal and now I hate Montreal because I’m in Boston,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun.” The second round of the NHL playoffs begins Thursday night when the Canadiens visit the Bruins for Game 1 of the 34th postseason series between the teams, by far the most in the NHL...

Bruins will keep giving it their best shot
Even Montreal admits it was lucky in Game 1.
By Howard Ulman

BOSTON — The Bruins pelted Carey Price with 51 shots. An overtime bid by Boston’s Carl Soderberg slid across the crease behind the goalie but didn’t go in. The team with the NHL’s best regular-season record had plenty of chances. So Coach Claude Julien says the Bruins are feeling positive after the Montreal Canadiens’ 4-3 double-overtime victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Thursday night...

Bruins storm back for a 5-3 win over Canadiens
Boston scores four times in the third period in Game 2 to even the series.
By Jimmy Golen

BOSTON — Reilly Smith scored the go-ahead goal with 3:32 left, and the Boston Bruins rallied from two down in the third period to beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-3 on Saturday and tie the Eastern Conference semifinals at one game apiece. The Bruins trailed 3-1 with just over nine minutes remaining before Dougie Hamilton scored, then Patrice Bergeron tied it with 5:43 remaining. Reilly then wristed a cross-ice pass from Torey Krug past Carey Price to give Boston the lead...

Bruins say they know the secret to beating Montreal goalie Carey Price
But Price says there’s nothing to Boston’s revelation of shooting high.

BROSSARD, Quebec — The mind games have started in the Boston-Montreal playoff series. Canadiens Coach Michel Therrien said Monday his team will not be thrown off by what he feels is an attempt by the Bruins to plant a seed of doubt in goalie Carey Price’s head. He feels the same way about what he thinks is Bruins Coach Claude Julien’s bid to catch a break from the referees...

Bruins drop Game 3 to Montreal, trail series 2-1
For the third straight game, the Canadiens hold a 3-1 lead in the third period. This time, they don’t let it completely slip away.
The Associated Press

Bruins not feeling panic despite trailing Canadiens
Boston will try to tie the series with a Game 4 win in Montreal on Thursday night.
From news service reports

BROSSARD, Quebec — Dale Weise is finding out what it’s like to be a Montreal Canadien when they’re winning in the springtime. Some were not happy when General Manager Marc Bergevin sent defenseman Raphael Diaz to the Vancouver Canucks for the little-known Weise on Feb. 3. Now the energetic fourth-line winger is becoming a playoff star...

Bruins score quickly in OT, tie up series 2-2
Little-used Matt Fraser stuffs a rebound past Montreal’s goalie 1:19 into overtime, giving Boston a much-needed victory.

MONTREAL — Matt Fraser fantasized about a night like this as a kid in Red Deer, Alberta.
Making his NHL playoff debut after being called up Wednesday from Providence of the American Hockey League, the 23-year-old Fraser scored at 1:19 of overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night. "It's something I dreamed about many times on the outdoor rinks growing up," Fraser said. "It's every kid's dream to score in overtime."...
