Bruins seek clincher against Canadiens
Boston has two chances to finish off Montreal but hopes it needs only one.

BOSTON — The Boston Bruins have two chances to finish off the archrival Montreal Canadiens. They are only thinking about the first one. “It’s going to be awesome,” Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller said, looking to Game 6 in Montreal on Monday night. “This is the biggest game – the hardest one to win. So, we need to be ready.” The Bruins won 4-2 in Game 5 on Saturday to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series and send the Canadiens to the brink of elimination. Game 6 is Monday at the raucous Bell Centre, with Game 7 in Boston on Wednesday night, if necessary...

Bruins’ Thornton fined for squirting water
Shawn Thornton says he ‘got caught up in the moment’ when he squirted water from the bench at P.K. Subban of the Canadiens in the final minute of Saturday night’s game.

NEW YORK — Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton said on Sunday that he will not contest a fine of more than $2,800 for squirting water from the bench at Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban in the final minute of Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. “I obviously got caught up in the moment,”....

Game 7 experience on Bruins’ side
But Boston must play better to beat the Montreal Canadiens

BOSTON — The Bruins’ crowd has been hostile to Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban, booing him every time he touches the puck. And he can’t wait to get back to Boston. “That’s what playoffs is all about, man,” Subban said after Montreal won Game 6 to force the series back to Boston’s TD Garden for a decisive seventh game. “I hope their crowd is louder. ... I hope it gets nasty, I hope it gets dirty.”...

Bruins fall to Montreal in Game 7, eliminated from playoffs
The 3-1 defeat ends Boston’s season earlier than expected, as the Canadiens advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

BOSTON – Even as the Montreal Canadiens swept through the opening round of the playoffs — their first postseason series victory in four years — they knew that a more difficult challenge was next. The Boston Bruins. Their Original Six rival. The defending Eastern Conference champions and the NHL’s top team in the regular season. “That’s our measuring stick,” forward Max Pacioretty said after the Canadiens beat the Bruins 3-1 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Wednesday night. “There’s always been that rivalry, and that bad feeling between Boston and Montreal. Not just between the cities, but in the rooms, too.”...

Bruins' Stanley Cup goal is unmet again
Boston entered the playoffs as the top-ranked team in the NHL but couldn't survive a seven-game series against Montreal.
By Jimmy Golen

BOSTON — The Boston Bruins went to the TD Garden for Game 7 of their playoff series against Montreal knowing that someone’s season would end. They just never considered it might be theirs. “Oh, it’s tough to swallow,” defenseman Johnny Boychuk said after a 3-1 loss to the Canadiens eliminated the Bruins. “We have such a good team. It shouldn’t be.”...

No great shakes to Bruins’ demise
Milan Lucic doesn’t regret his antics after the series with Montreal ended.

BOSTON — The traditional post-series handshake between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens wasn’t the symbol of sportsmanship the NHL might be looking for. Bruins forward Milan Lucic said something to anger Montreal’s Dale Weise and Alexei Emelin after the Canadiens beat the Bruins in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Although no one involved in the exchange would...

Steve Solloway: Don’t tune out just yet, Bruins fans

Nothing beats the intensity of playoff hockey, with or without your favorite team involved.
So the Boston Bruins couldn’t find their David Ortiz on hockey skates. So they lost to the we-don’t-get-respect Montreal Canadiens in Game 7 of their second-round playoff series...

Bruins president thinks future is bright
Cam Neely says his team is young – except for Zdeno Chara, 37.

BOSTON — Cam Neely says the Bruins are still set up to contend for the Stanley Cup for years to come. Speaking at a news conference a week after Boston was eliminated from the playoffs by archrival Montreal, the Bruins’ president noted that most of the roster is made up of young but experienced players – aside from 37-year-old Zdeno Chara. “And Zdeno is still, in my opinion, the best defender in the game,” Neely ...
